VA Maine Healthcare System (formerly Togus VA Medical Center) proudly serves Maine's veterans at a main campus in Augusta or any of nine outpatient clinics. It's a modern 67 bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 40 Skilled-Longer Stay beds, a 25-bed Dementia Unit, and a hospice unit.Living inMaine offers safe communities with highly rated school systems, a variety of outdoors recreational destinations, near-by college and university campuses, and myriad cultural events.

Your salary will be determined by local Physician/Dentist Compensation Panel (commensurate with education, experience and qualifications). By law, U.S. Citizens will be given 1st preference but non-citizens will be considered in the absence of qualified citizens.

Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:

* make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity,

* diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions,

* administer local anesthesia,

* perform routine and complex restoration of teeth,

* perform simple and complex extractions of teeth,

* perform alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures,

* perform prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work,

* perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth,

* perform routine and surgical periodontal procedures,

* surgically place and restore implants.
The scope of practice that a specific provider may perform is defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:**

Basic Requirements****: **

* Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
* Degree of doctor of dental medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in dentistry or dental surgery.
* successfully completed one postgraduate year of hospital training in the form of an approved residency program (general practice or specialty), or comparable experience as a dentist member of a hospital medical staff actively involved in hospital dental care.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

**Reference:**VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-3 Dentist Qualification Standard.** **This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
