Role synopsis: We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Analytical Chemistry Projects Specialist with substantial industrial experience and versatile hands-on expertise to join our Analytical Chemistry and Process Analytics team. The successful candidate will contribute to a number of projects supporting optimization of the current lignocellulosic ethanol (LC) technology platform, as well as development of new biofuels technology platforms.
Work activities will be equally split between the following:
(a) Providing analysis of large and small molecule samples generated at different stages of the LCE bioprocess using a range of conventional analytical instrumentation and software to provide information on compounds present and quantities of these, optimization of existing and development of new analytical methods for identification and/or quantification of unknown compounds, delivery of high quality and accurate analytical chemistry data and information, providing instrumentation support as needed, and writing and validating analytical procedures.
(b) Providing expert Analytical LIMS and laboratory automation support by managing all LIMS workflows and leading projects that increase end-to-end automation such as barcoding and LIMS Link.
Reports to Resource Manager, Analytical and Process Analytics.
Key accountabilities: • Optimizing existing and developing new analytical methods for analysis of small and large molecule samples using a variety of analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC, IC, and ICP.
• Generating, recording, interpreting, and reporting high quality and accurate analytical chemistry data and information.
• Writing, optimizing, and validating SOPs and SOMs for analytical instrumentation and methods.
• LIMS expert that manages all LIMS needs for Analytical and Process Analytics team, responsible for adding / maintaining tests and analysis and managing analytical workflows.
• Analytical lead for laboratory automation projects that increase end-to-end automation such as barcoding and LIMS Link.
Essential Education: • B.S. or M. Sc. in Analytical Chemistry or related Life Sciences discipline.
• Expert knowledge of LIMS.
• At least 5 years of industrial experience.

• Experience with biomass and lignocellulosic ethanol process samples characterization.
• Experience with analytical instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Expert knowledge of LIMS and related data parsing software packages.
• Experience with implementation of laboratory automation solutions, such as barcoding.
• Excellent technical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent record keeping, oral communication, and writing skills.
