Position Summary

Under the direction of the General Accounting Manager, responsible for general accounting functions including daily cash application of customer account receivable payments, recording of daily banking transactions, month end closing support, and general ledger support. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the timely, complete and accurate accounting and reporting of their assigned monthly financial close tasks and in accordance with company policies and US GAAP. The person is responsible for performing ad hoc business support from the accounting department, as requested throughout the month.

Essential Tasks

1. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
2. Maintains proper effective internal controls.
3. Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies.
4. Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts and posting reconciling entries.
5. Downloads and prepares monthly Excel spreadsheets for the processing of various third party service provider invoices.
6. Download large volumes of excel data from the system to support various calculations and account reconciliations
7. Assists with month-end, quarter-end and annual closings as assigned.
8. Prepares reconciliations of general ledger accounts as needed.
9. Prepares month-end intercompany account reconciliations.
10. Performs general ledger support as assigned.
11. Calculate and record journal entries for certain accounting areas, including but not limited to areas such as location expense accruals, insurance accruals, prepaid expense accounts, customer and vendor rebate accounting and capital vs operating lease treatment.
12. Experience in or exposure to inventory accounting a plus.
13. Reconciliation of certain accounts monthly between the perpetual or calculated amounts and general ledgers.
14. Research and explain expense variances to prior year and plan or other ad hoc analyses as requested.

Qualifications

Education/Professional Experience
 Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field from an accredited university; M.B.A a plus.
 Minimum 2-4 years of prior accounting experience to include general ledger and/or inventory or costing support in a well-established corporate environment.
 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) a plus.
 Retail or distribution company experience a plus.

Computer Skills
 Intermediate to advanced level experience with Microsoft Excel, and strong use of other Microsoft products.
 Experience with AS400 system a plus.

Travel
 Occasional travel as needed, to stores and distribution centers primarily.
