This position is located in the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The OIG is an independent office created within the PBGC to: (1) conduct audits, evaluations and investigations of PBGC''s programs and activities; (2) provide leadership and coordination and recommend policies to promote economy, efficiency and effectiveness, and to prevent and detect fraud and abuse; and (3) keep Congress and the Board fully and currently informed about problems and deficiencies and the necessary corrective actions and progress thereof.

Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt. This position serves as an expert Auditor within OIG and may serve as a team leader. The incumbent develops, plans, conducts and coordinates a broad range of audit, evaluation and attestation assignments, including financial, contract, information technology and security, and performance activities, in accordance with government auditing and evaluation standards; identifies appropriate analytical techniques and methods for gathering and analyzing data and information; interviews PBGC officials and prepares timely write-ups; provides oral briefings on findings and conclusions; prepares timely final reports and other written work products based on conducted audits or projects; may provide guidance and instruction to other staff when acting in the capacity of team leader on complex projects; conducts task forces, study groups or other special project teams.

**You must meet the "Basic Requirement" for the GS-0511 series positions (transcripts are required):**

**A.** BA/BS degree in accounting; or a BA/BS degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing". Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")

**B.** Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant''s background __**must also include one of the following**__:

**1. **Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;

**2. **A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination (copy of certificate required); or

**3. **Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant''s education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

Specialized experience for the GS-13 includes but is not limited to: Conducting and coordinating a broad range of audit, evaluation and attestation assignments, including financial, contract, information technology and security, and performance activities, in accordance with government auditing and evaluation standards; producing final reports on conducted cases and providing oral briefings on findings and conclusions; identifying and targeting weaknesses to develop a plan of action to resolve problems; assessing managements corrective action plans to mitigate non-compliance activity.
