Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 14,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. Rowan is only the second university in the country to offer M.D. and D.O. medical-degree granting programs. The School of Osteopathic Medicine has a faculty practice plan that serves approximately 200,000 patients throughout Southern New Jersey. The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, which fosters the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes. Its business incubator also supports that mission. The University boasts eight colleges--Rohrer College of Business and colleges of Communication and Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Graduate and Continuing Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science and Mathematics—and has been called upon by the state to create a College of Health Sciences.

SUMMARY:
Participates in the assessment and treatment of the clinical needs of the clients. Assists in the development of treatment planning. Provides clinical supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

1. Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy as clinically indicated to assigned clients.
a. Provides therapy with empathy and concern for the client as indicated by supervisory observation.
b. Involves client and/or family in developing achievable and understandable psychosocial treatment plans in accordance with accepted professional standards as observed by supervisor.
c. Spends appropriate percentage of time in direct service, as determined by Institute Directors and/or unit program description.
d. Advocates for appropriate resources for clients and families based on assessed needs in accordance with professionally accepted standards as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
e. Intervenes clinically based on a theoretical orientation as observed by supervisor.
f. Engages clients in the CARES Institute evidence-based treatment programs as observed by supervisor in case presentations.
g. Assists clients in effectively managing crises as measured by supervisory observations.
h. Responds with clinical flexibility to client's needs as measured by supervisory observations.
i. Responds with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues of clients as measured by supervisory observations.
j. Manages termination issues in an effective and timely manner as measured by supervisory observation.
k. Manages caseload demands effectively while considering both quality of care and agency needs as assessed by supervisory staff.

2. Provides psychological assessments, which may include psychological needs evaluations, comprehensive psychological evaluations, and mental health screenings of children in foster care.
a. Conducts assessments following appropriate protocol.
b. Communicates findings/recommendations in a clear and effective manner.
c. Completes reports in a timely manner.

3. Assumes overall case management responsibilities for assigned clients, including coordination of treatment and liaison with community agencies as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
a. Collaborates effectively with other staff members, referral sources and social support networks to provide treatment and care for clients and families as measured by supervisory observation and record review.
b. Maintains effective, open communication with members of treatment team(s) as indicated by feedback from team members and supervisory observation.

4. Maintains appropriate client records in a timely manner as mandated by Institute policy.
a. Completes evaluation and PNE reports for client’s chart within prescribed time frame as indicated by a regular review of records.
b. Completes progress notes, containing all necessary elements, immediately following each service provided.
c. Completes notification of closure and discharge letter (when applicable) and closes case within 15 days of termination of services.

5. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field.
a. Regularly attends and participates in in-service meetings and other designated training events that will enhance clinical skills as documented by attendance at same.
b. Identifies and develops area of expertise related to child abuse.

6. Support goals and objectives of the CARES Institute.
a. Effectively contributes to and supports an environment that enhances the positive self-image of clients and preserves their human dignity, as observed by supervisor.
b. Actively and enthusiastically participates and contributes to smooth functioning and operations of unit as observed by supervisor.
c. Actively participates in Institute-wide meetings, committees and task forces as assigned, as observed by supervisor and Institute Administration feedback.

7. Provides direct clinical and administrative supervision as assigned to staff, students and
interns.
a. Provides support and guidance to supervisees consistent with their need as indicated by written evaluation and supervisory consultation.
b. Evaluates supervisees’ performance to determine areas which need improvement as indicated by written evaluations and supervisory consultations.

8. Shows leadership and initiative in support of overall Institute mission.
a. Actively participates in policy and goal-setting for the Institute as observed by
supervisor.
b. Provides constructive feedback to Institute administrator as observed by supervisor.
c. Collects, maintains, and provides management information and data as required or observed by supervisor.
d. Initiates and participates in staff training and development consistent with areas of expertise as observed by supervisor.

9. Other related activities
a. Provides therapy through grant-funded programs as requested.
b. Administers standardized measures as per assessment protocols.
c. Adheres to grant funded treatment protocols and completes all required records and reports.
d. Maintains client contact expectations.

10. Outreach services.
a. Provides indicated therapy in DYFS satellite office.
b. Maintains client contact expectations.
c. Provides expert consultation to DYFS staff.

11. Understands and adheres to Rowan University compliance standards as they appear
in Rowan's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct of Interest Policy.

12. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rowan's regulations, laws, and policies as
they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Candidates must possess a Ph.D, or Ed.D in psychology and be licensed in NJ. A temporary exception for licensure may be granted with a valid one-year unsupervised NJ permit or three-year supervised NJ permit and requisite number of post-doctoral supervised hours towards NJ licensure. Submission of NJ licensure application to the Board of Psychological Examiners for examination required.

Two evenings of direct service are required. Travel may be required to the satellite offices
