SteelHead is Riverbed’s flagship product and was recently named as Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers for the 7th year in a row. The SteelHead business unit is going through a major strategy refresh as it evolves its core products to provide integrated optimization, visibility and control for Cloud, SaaS and mobile applications running on hybrid networks. This transformation will involve the product evolving from an appliance-based to more of a cloud and services-centric business model.

Position Summary
The Vice President of SteelHead Product Marketing, who reports into the SVP, GM of SteelHead Business Unit, will lead a product marketing team to develop and execute strategic marketing plans for Riverbed’s core SteelHead business. This role demands an exceptionally talented, hands-on marketing leader with experience leading a product marketing team inside of a multi-product platform company. The ideal candidate will show an ability to work closely with the Platform marketing team and other product teams on developing opportunities to cross-sell and upsell multiple product offerings across our Application Performance Platform. Experience in leading a marketing team through a major strategic shift would be a major plus. This position is based in San Francisco, CA.

The Vice President of Product Marketing - Steelhead is responsible for executing on the marketing strategy for the Steelhead business, with a specific focus on evolving our product to thrive in the mobile and cloud world. Success will be measured by the ability to drive awareness, market adoption, competitive differentiation, market share, customer references, and revenue goals.

This position will have a heavy focus on cross-functional alignment, portfolio management and prioritization, best-practice launch execution, marketing collateral creation, naming, sales enablement, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will also be a hands-on creator of content with exceptional presentation and industry influencing skills. This person will think strategically while also driving detailed execution and managing team deliverables.

The fast-paced environment demands a quick learner who can bring high enthusiasm and creativity to the job, backed by strong messaging, communications and analytical skills. The Vice President of Product Marketing - Steelhead will have direct impact on growing revenue and profit and driving thought leadership.

Responsibilities

* Marketing Strategies: Devise innovative marketing strategies, including segmentation, messaging and positioning, launch plans, sales enablement and campaigns to drive lead generation activities with the global field marketing teams.

* Global marketing campaigns/sales enablement: Execute on lead generation and sales enablement campaigns with global field marketing teams. Understand sales and channel partner needs and develop training and education assets to enable the customer-facing teams to accelerate time to revenue and beat the competition.

* Strategic positioning: Work with the field, partners, and analysts to position our products not only at the high level but also around new technologies or features that we bring to market.

* Content creation: Create the core tools and content that are used across PR, presentations, campaigns, field marketing, sales engagements, and channel marketing. Work with your team to create new tools and improve existing ones.

* Alignment with Sales and Field: Work closely with sales and field marketing to ensure marketing efforts are aligned with sales strategies and pipeline targets. Host and coordinate with other product groups according to a regular cadence of communications with the field, updating them on product roadmaps, launches and promotions. Ensure the communications are streamlined and prioritized to avoid inundating the field.

* Representing the Customer: Assume the critical role of “voice of the customer” within Riverbed and provide market facing leadership for staff functions and development teams.

* Product Launches: Riverbed regularly launches new products or version updates. Take charge of a new product and help customers, press, and analysts understand why what we’re doing is relevant to the market and of value to customers.

* Excellent verbal presentation and communication skills and proven marketing writing skills as needed for various marketing activities, including MRDs, launch plans, keynotes, press and analyst tours, seminars/webinars, collateral and training.

* Measurement of Success: Effectively track, measure and report the impact of marketing activities.

* Think globally, but act locally by being well connected to the needs of each theater.

Requirements:

* Minimum of 10 years of experience in enterprise software or infrastructure product marketing.
* Demonstrated successes in positioning, pricing, promotions, campaigns, partnering and merchandising/bundling programs.
* Extensive experience developing and launching new products.
* Expertise in the areas of competitive analysis, packaging/merchandising, sales promotions, and streamlining communications to the field.
* VP-level experience, “coach-athlete” model preferred.
* Deep experience with software & application infrastructure technology.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including creating written content (sales tools) and giving presentations to audiences at conferences/seminars.
* Experience in leading complex product launches.
* Powerful ability to competitively differentiate from the vendors that matter.
* Experience managing a product marketing team and delivering concrete results.
* Creativity to create new sales tools from scratch and evolve them over time.
* A blend of technical understanding and the ability to deliver the right high-level message.
* Driven, self-motivated, and always looking for ways to improve on our current marketing efforts.
* Ability to drive projects through to completion, cooperating and coordinating with many other groups within the company.
