This is a sales management position responsible for the improvement of Sysco’s market position and achieving financial growth by defining long-term strategic goals, identifying business opportunity, finding potential new customers and negotiating contracts to secure their business. Working with the Regional Sales Managers, District Sales Managers and Marketing Associates, the Business Development Manager develops relationships with prospects and transitions these accounts to the sales force.

Responsibilities:

* Works with the senior sales team on the development of a comprehensive business development strategy

* Identifies business development opportunities, coordinates sales teams to propose new business, and drive such opportunities from concept to execution

* Collaborates with sales team to expand business development efforts, including contributing to annual profit plan and assist with the implementation and execution of such plans and tracking outcomes

* Manages systems and processes to track, measure and report on results of business development initiatives

* Gather information on emerging market and foodservice industry trends to understand the competitive landscape and top position Sysco for increased effectiveness in securing new business

* Works with the Sales team to develop proposals that speaks to the client’s needs, concerns and objectives

* Attends industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provides feedback and information on market and creative trends

* Present to and consult with senior level management on trends in the foodservice business

* Identify opportunities for promotions, additional services, and distribution avenues that will lead to an increase in sales

* Develop strong working relationships with brokers, distributors, company and foodservice industry peers

* Ensure that data and activity on accounts is accurately entered and managed within Sysco proprietary CRM tool

* Develop primary vendor programs as needed

* Conduct quality business reviews for existing customers

* Conduct merchandising research for customers regarding products to meet their needs

* Review weekly, monthly and quarterly sales objectives and results for target accounts and prepare action plans where improvement is needed

* Provide, prepare and cut samples for customers as required

* Attend sales meetings, food shows, etc. and provide feedback

* Stay current with development in the field through participate in seminars, workshops and reading publications

* Participate in company functions, promotions, customer visits and customer events.

* Perform administrative duties, such as preparing sales budgets and reports, maintaining sales records and filing reports.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:*

* High School Diploma or GED required

* Bachelor’s degree in a related field or Culinary degree with two years of supervisory experience and five years of foodservice sales experience or an equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

* Must maintain a valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets Company minimum standards

* Must maintain current automobile insurance with the following limits Bodily injury $100,000 each person and $300,000 each accident; property damage of $100,000

* Must be willing to sign a Sysco Protective Covenants Agreement

*CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:*

Servsafe certification beneficial

*ABILITIES AND SKILLS:*

* Demonstrates mastery of skills in the area of consultative selling, marketing principles, prospecting, networking, coaching and negotiations

* Ability to effectively coach, counsel, train and direct associates

* Demonstrates working knowledge of general finance terminology/concepts and credit terms

* Ability to supervise and motivate others

* Ability to strategically plan and execute through the actions of others

* Ability to read, analyze and interpret general sales reports

* Ability to write reports and business correspondence

* A working knowledge of product lines, ordering procedures and credit terms of Sysco preferred.

* Familiarization with customer service activities, interdepartmental communications and general finance concepts beneficial.

* Working knowledge of food service sales and merchandising principles, food sales industry, street/territory and program sales, and product lines sold by Sysco.

* Familiarity of local industry trends and issues in the food service industry

* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

* Ability to learn the use of proprietary CRM tools for planning and forecasting sales growth

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, portion cost, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume

* Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

* Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to execute multiple initiatives autonomously

* Ability to express information in terms of profit and loss, food cost and expense ratio.

* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

* Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Spreadsheet and Word Processing software

* Ability to acquire functional knowledge of a variety of computer programs

* Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.

* Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.

* Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments and shifts in a proactive and constructive manner.

* Understanding of Sysco’s key business metrics – preferred

* Ability to handle multiple jobs, timelines and deadlines

* Ability to prioritize, multi task, and shift priorities as necessary

* Proactive and self-directed, yet able to work as part of a team

* Strong analytical skills to assess available market research and trends in the market

* Ability to work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices and comply with local, state and federal regulations.

* Reports to work promptly and regularly; works well with others; demonstrates the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

* To be successful in this position, the individual performing the duties must successfully demonstrate all the Leadership Framework competencies for this position.
