JOB DESCRIPTION: An educational institution located in Snohomish County is looking to hire a RE-ENTRY PROGRAM SPECIALIST. The Re-entry Program Coordinator will be responsible for assisting men and women releasing from prison and jail facilities throughout Washington State in their efforts to enroll in programs at Edmonds Community College, and other colleges in Snohomish and North King Counties. The position will connect potential students with campus resources designed to identify personal and professional goals, educational pathways to prepare for enrollment in college programs, plus available community and employment resources.Responsibilities will include:•Assist potential students in all aspects of college enrollment based on participants’ goals and aspirations.•Collaborate with Edmonds Community College instructional and student support services departments to determine appropriate fit for each student’s needs, including types of financial aid available at the college. •Selected individual will have a general knowledge of surrounding community and technical college programs.•Participate in community events and committees supporting the re-entry population.•Communicate with faculty inside the prison system to assist students with choosing the best college program upon release and college enrollment.•Collaborate with other Washington State re-entry transition programs to ensure efficiency in use of statewide resources. •Assist re-entry applicants in transitioning into college, including facilitation of the application process, transfer of information and needed documents, and providing ongoing support while enrolled at EdCC, as deemed appropriate.•Work with EdCC’s Career Action Center, WorkSource and other community resources to assist re-entry students with their employment goals.•Maintain student electronic reporting (if required) and database, documenting participant contact, services provided and educational/employment progress. •Prepare reports and documentation of participant outcomes.This is a temporary, project classified Program Specialist 2 position (based on external funding) that reports to the Director of WorkFirst, BFET and Opportunity Grant Programs.JOB REQUIREMENTS: •Associate’s Degree.•Direct experience and familiarity with the Washington State Department of Corrections system and the re-entry population.•Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:•Bachelor’s Degree.•Demonstrated computer proficiency with all Microsoft products, especially Excel.•Ability to use the internet for resource research management and in navigating college websites for program information.•Ability to work effectively with populations representing culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, life experiences and abilities.•Ability to work effectively with government systems and personnel.•Ability to work within an educational office setting.•Willing to work occasional evenings or weekend hours as scheduled.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:•You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.•Position is subject to a criminal background check (criminal background for this position will not automatically disqualify one from employment with EdCC).•Union Shop Fee: You must become a member of the classified union or pay a representation fee or nonassociation fee within thirty (30) calendar days of your hire.•All new positions are contingent upon funding.HOURS / DAYS / SCHEDULE:40 hours per week. Beginning salary is $37,008 - $44,880 annually for 40 hours per week, plus a full state benefits package, including tuition waiver for college classes.
