USC Health Sciences Public Relations and Marketing is a unit of Keck Medicine of USC that provides strategic public relations and marketing expertise to advance the mission of Keck Medicine, which is comprised of the Keck School of Medicine of USC , our privately-owned hospitals, the faculty physician practice, and other health sciences programs. Program areas – including media relations, publications, marketing and special projects- work collectively to increase public awareness of and engagement in health sciences programs. Health Sciences Public Relations and Marketing is seeking a high energy, innovative, enterprising professional with superb communication skills to assist with the management of the calendar of daily social media postings, any escalation of critical issues and the creation of content including a series of infographics. Reporting to the Senior Specialist of PR & Social Media, in this role, you will help identify and create opportunities for social media content for the entire Keck Medicine of USC social media ecosystem. The Office of Public and Media Relations encompasses traditional PR, social media and video production services for the Keck Medicine of USC enterprise. Social media are vital tools in the marketing mix, delivering constant streams of news, information, videos and crisis communication messages to our publics. Thought leader institutions cannot exist without a robust social media presence, which requires 2417 monitoring and content creation. In addition, the Office of Public and Media Relations is supporting a broader base of internal clients, including development officers, donors, community relations and others. The PR & Social Media Coordinator functions as a core part of the Office of Public and Media Relations reporting directly to the Senior Specialist of PR & Social Media. The PR & Social Media Coordinator will help maintain a calendar of social media content, craft social media messages, coordinate video production logistics, post approved content through an online scheduling tool, monitor social media channels for content updates and prepare tracking reports. The successful candidate will have a proven record of creating engaging content and should provide examples of success achieved through well-conceived and executed posts. The position will also work on special projects as assigned where press materials, press outreach, event PR coordination and social media support may be required. These activities may include support for programs such as The Wellness Center at the Historic General Hospital, the SOS Mentor Program on childhood diabetes, the Rebels with a Cause fundraising event, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and the Keck Medicine of USC sponsorship of the L.A. Marathon. Given the nature of PR and events, some activities may require working outside of normal business hours during the week and occasionally, on weekends. May oversee student, temporary and/or vendors. Requirements Minimum Education: -Bachelor's degree in new media/digital journalism, broadcast journalism, public relations, film production/cinema, or visual communications preferred. -Bachelor's degree in associated field accepted if other qualifications are met. Minimum Experience/Knowledge: -2 years experience in social media creation, posting and tracking either via in-house work; social media, marketing or PR agency; or freelance work in this area. Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of social media including working with Hootsuite Pro, Divvy HQ, Klout, Radian6, Zuum Social and other scheduling and analysis tools. -Experience working in and understanding of key social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Linkedln, Google+, Wikipedia, Instagram, Tumblr and others. -Ability to use desktop publishing and photo editing software. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated journalistic news and storytelling skills. -Proven ability to manage projects on tight deadlines. -Flexible work style required for a dynamic environment with shifting deadlines and priorities and ability to multi-task projects. -Strong sense of team work and collaboration. -Proven ability as a self-starter and problem-solver who evaluates situations, articulates possible solutions and earns the respect of others by carefully listening and presenting productive responses. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE -Minimum of2-3 years experience in PR or media. -Social media or PR experience in health care, medical center or medical school preferred. -Design, photography and video editing experience preferred. Required License/Certification: -Valid California state driver's license. -A Fire and Safety card must be presented upon hire or must be obtained at our facility within the first 30 days of hire and maintained by renewing before expiration date.
