Position Summary
Responsible for directing and leading the activities and functional capabilities of the Strategic Medical Communications and Innovation group.

This includes the development and global implementation of innovative tools used to engage medical customers, completion of projects, ownership and global deployment of the worldwide Medical Information database, creation of tools used to identify insights from medical customer interactions as well as the development and implementation of a worldwide Medical Communications platform.
Accountable for ensuring that the Strategic Medical Communications and Innovation group executes against department/company strategy, goals and objectives.

Partners with internal business partners and other functional leads, including Global Medical Information and Global Scientific Communications to continually seek opportunities to optimize medical and scientific resources and align the creation of communications tools with Global Medical Affairs objectives.

Responsible for the development/enhancement and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes for the group to ensure compliance with current legal, regulatory and company requirements for medical communications.

Oversees all financial and contractual aspects of group, including vendor negotiations.

Develops yearly budget for the Strategic Medical Communications and Innovation group and ensures management of monthly spend within allocated budget.
In addition, is responsible for supporting the development and training of employees within the group through performance coaching, development discussions and mentoring.

Participates in management development and training initiatives to meet current and future business needs.

Develops and trains staff to achieve their maximum potential based on their needs and that of the organization.
Core Responsibilities:
1.

Leads the strategy, creation, implementation and continuous improvement of a worldwide Global Medical Communications platform focused on medical content, insights, technology and people.

2.

Leads strategy and ensures execution of best-in-class Global Medical Affairs scientific congress deliverables across therapeutic areas.

3.

In collaboration with cross-functional (including but not limited to Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Translational Medicine, Global Marketing and Strategy, etc.) and cross-regional leadership, establishes global processes and best practices for the dissemination of the most current scientific and clinical information on Celgene pipeline and marketed products.

4.

Proactively partners with Medical Affairs leadership to develop and implement a compliant strategy and framework for the delivery and communication of key scientific, pipeline, or clinical insights in line with Medical Affairs objectives.

5.

Through awareness of medical customer information seeking trends as well as industry best practices, leads the identification and development of novel platforms/technologies for appropriately engaging external medical customers regarding available data and value of Celgene investigational and marketed products.

6.

Leads (in collaboration with key internal stakeholders ) the coordination and execution of efforts to raise awareness of open Celgene clinical studies across multiple existing and novel channels.

7.

Partner with Scientific Communications and Medical Information leadership to ensure awareness and alignment of deliverables relevant to the dissemination of scientific and medical data.

8.

Assumes global ownership of the Medical Information database; including but not limited to continual evaluation of current database as well as identification of future database options, worldwide implementation, training and continuous improvement based on feedback from end-users.

9.

Ensures awareness of current trends within the industry and establishes global best practices regarding system(s) enhancement, usage and training.

10.

Leads the evaluation, implementation and enhancement of global tools used for medical customer engagement.

11.

Ensures alignment and compatibility of new communications channels/tools with global databases in order to capture global customer engagements and provide for analytics/insights capture.

12.

Actively collaborates with cross-functional business partners to ensure alignment in customer relationship management (CRM) tools and proactively identifies synergistic opportunities.

13.

Leads the development and implementation of innovative tools to garner insights from multiple sources used to capture feedback from medical customer engagements

14.

Demonstrates profound leadership and ownership of agreed deliverables including coordination of multiple stakeholders at a cross-regional and cross-functional level.

15.

Projects annual budget via analysis of the department workload and resource requirements, estimates for work by vendors and software and/or hardware expenditures.

Manages annual budget and works within allocated resources.

Works with Finance and Legal to secure appropriate department-related contracts and agreements.

16.

Makes decisions regarding personnel, including the hiring of exempt/non-exempt staff, disciplinary actions and performance appraisals.

17.

Develops and trains team to achieve their maximum potential based on their needs and the needs of the organization through performance coaching, development and mentoring.

Participates in management development and training initiatives to meet current and future business needs.

18.

Creates and implements departmental SOPs regarding processes and procedures necessary to achieve organizational objectives and for complying with government regulations and company policy.

Evaluates adherence to policies/procedures and institutes corrective action when needed.

19.

Performs other responsibilities as requested by management.

Completes all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframe and adheres to job-specific SOPs and work instructions.

4.

Identifies, obtains pertinent data, and accurately processes any reported adverse events (AEs) and product quality complaints (PQCs) to Drug Safety and Quality Assurance Complaint department, respectively, in accordance with policy and procedures.
Prerequisites:
Pharm.D.

or Ph.D.

in a pharmaceutical science required; MBA preferred

7-10 years of Pharmaceutical industry experience required

People Management Experience Required

Relevant therapeutic background desired
