Job Description

Major Function
Toro’s new product development is accomplished by cross-functional teams comprised of Sourcing, Marketing, Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, This position is responsible for sourcing prototype parts for new product development teams.  The Advanced Sourcing Manager is an active member of product development team(s) throughout all phases of new product/part development, working with suppliers and engineers to determine design approaches and alignment of supplier capabilities in order to provide cost and quality advantages.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Identify and maintain current knowledge regarding approved supplier capabilities, technologies and processes in order to assist in the matching of appropriate suppliers for new parts originating from new or revised BOM’s
2. Research new technologies, materials, and suppliers that can be incorporated in new product development
3. Serve as an internal resource regarding supplier new products, capabilities, technologies, and sourcing process
4. Serve as an active product development team member in all phases of Toro BDS/PDS processes to ensure cross-functional objectives of New Product Development (NPD)
5. Participate in new product/part design reviews and coordinate the election and participation of applicable suppliers
6. Provide standard costing assistance to the NPD project team early on in development phases
7. Integrate NPD activities with Production Sourcing to proactively assure parts availability, identify lead-time requirements, manage contractual obligations and establish comprehensive sourcing strategies.
8. Participate with AME’s and product designers in identifying new outsourcing opportunities as part of the Make vs. Buy decision
9. Participate in pre-production manufacturing pilot runs and start-up of new product manufacturing as necessary to assure on-time delivery of parts and a high level of supplier performance
10. Work as a team member with Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing in the supplier assessment and qualification processes to determine supplier capabilities for meeting cost, quality, information, and service and delivery requirements

Job Dimensions
Under direction of Manager, Advanced Sourcing, this position supports strategic sourcing activities for a wide variety of low-medium-high complexity, and high-risk materials, components and services. Work is to be performed cross functionally with Marketing, Design Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Manufacturing, and both prospective and existing Suppliers and support of all plants and all divisions of The Toro Company is to be provided.

Specifications
• Current enrollment in Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree program in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology or related field; GPA of 2.5 or higher
• 2 years of technical buying or other supply chain activity desired
• Excellent oral and written communications
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation and team leadership skills
• Course work or demonstrated experience with negotiations
• Analytical abilities and research skills, including using internet sources as a resource
• First-rate desktop software PC skills
• Understanding of enterprise purchasing and planning systems (SAP)
• Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints
• CPIM, CPSM certification preferred
