Job Description Partners with business to develop and implement accounting practices consistent with GAAP and other governing agencies such as FINRA, SEC, OTS, IRS, NAIC and insurance examiners. Responsible for ensuring the various Ledgers and Records of Ameriprise Financial and its subsidiaries are property accounted for and controlled.
Responsibilities Prepares/posts journal entries dealing with more complex accounting functions. Approves journal entries prepared by others. Reviews, analyzes and resolves more moderately complex issues in accounting transactions. Revises complex spreadsheets and updates financial reports. Follows specific accounting procedures. Owns and/or reconciles balance sheet accounts and reports on status. Researches and clears outstanding reconciling transactions. Research done using various sources such as system reports or data generated from outside department. May provide oversight to reconciliation of general ledger balance sheet accounts. Provides functional advice and training to business partners and less-experienced accountants. Participates as a subject matter expert on business projects. Provides metrics to drive business changes and objectives. Usually specializes in accounting for a particular line of business such as insurance, financial planning, mutual funds, banking, etc. Improves processes to ensure that integrity, control and optimal efficiency are established while minimizing financial risks. Develops and implements process improvement initiatives that support the department goals and service levels. Performs accounting processes for variety of transactions in accordance with GAAP, internal and external policies, procedures and authorizations. Prepares aging schedules, calculates bad debt and reserve balances and provides analysis.
Required Qualifications 3-5 years of accounting experience.
Ability to apply root cause analysis to obtain origination of critical operational and financial problems and protectively apply action steps to resolve issues.

Preferred Qualifications Bachelor s Degree-Accounting, Finance or related field.
Strong technical ability using the general ledger, spreadsheets, Access databases and word processing applications.
Strong understanding of the end-to-end process flows, systems, controls and impacts across products and business lines they support.
Strong understanding of systems, controls, accounting knowledge, financials and processes.
