**Description**

The **Industrial Hygienist** is accountable for providing industrial hygiene services to the Borger Refinery. This individual ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations and company requirements pertaining to OSHA, DOT, API and EPA. This position provides technical IH support for refining operations, engineering and maintenance staff. Also provides the leadership role for IH procedural development and record keeping for the site.

**Responsibilities may include**

* Developing and administering Site Industrial Hygiene Programs for compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety and occupational health standards and policies
* Providing leadership and technical guidance to integrate industrial hygiene systems into all refinery work processes to facilitate individual and line accountability for S&OH performance
* Networking with department, corporate and other site HSE functions that support Phillips safety and occupational health strategy efforts, on matters of general guidance
* Developing and presenting annual regulatory training and new employee orientation
* Ensuring new projects and changes receive IH review and input
* Managing the hygiene monitoring database to include the analysis of data, reporting of trends and recommendations regarding intervention actions
* Training and advising Refinery supervisors and management in the recognition of safety and health protection procedures and hazard identification
* Coordinating industrial hygiene surveys, develop toxicology testing procedures, and maintain records of exposures to toxic substances in the work environment
* Evaluating potential employee exposure to chemical and physical agents, quantitatively evaluate physical and chemical stressors, document all findings, and maintain records on all evaluations
* Managing the Refinery's Respiratory Protection program and periodically review the program to assure its continued effectiveness and compliance with OSHA standards
* Managing the Refinery's Hearing Conservation program
* Managing the Refinery’s Asbestos program
* Evaluating and recommend specific equipment and facilities to comply with regulatory and Phillips industrial hygiene regulations
* Keeping abreast of current developments in safety, health, and industrial hygiene, toxic substance measuring equipment, and make recommendations as to performance and applicability
* Providing guidance to Safety Representatives to ensure consistent understanding and implementation of industrial hygiene standards and practices
* Developing, maintaining, controlling, updating, and auditing industrial hygiene refinery policies and procedures
* Managing the Chemical Inventory / Safety Data Sheet on-line database, including being primary approval authority for New Chemical Use Requests, and oversee TSCA program reporting as needed
* Providing guidance and oversight of Refinery’s Personal Protective Equipment program including respiratory protection equipment training and quantitative fit testing
* Administering the Radiation Protection Program as the Radiation Safety Officer
* Participating in the Corporate Industrial Hygiene Network
* Providing leadership and support to refinery nested contractor IH Assessment Plans
* Providing industrial hygiene and safety support to the refinery laboratory

**Qualifications**

**Basic/Required** :

* Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
* Bachelor's Degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene or related field
* Must maintain a valid driver's license
* In depth knowledge of OSHA safety and occupational health regulatory requirements
* Skilled and experienced in using various industrial hygiene exposure monitoring equipment and sampling methods related to work place exposure monitoring and assessment
* Ability and willingness to perform/comply, with or without a reasonable accommodation, with the following:
o To climb ladders,
o To work at elevations
o To work inside confined spaces

**Preferred:**

* 3 or more years previous experience working in a professional industrial hygiene role in the petrochemical or chemical industry
* CIH or CSP desirable
* Knowledge of planning and organizational skills including the ability to work independently, prioritize activities, meet commitments, and proactively manage time
* Strong knowledge of desktop computer applications
* Communicates well, both written and orally, with all organizational levels, presents information/ideas in an articulate and organized way and effectively utilizes influencing skills
* Leads by example on the application of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
* Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment
* Ability to prioritize tasks based on business need
* Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments
* Ability to work in cross-functional teams
* Willing to share knowledge and responsibility in order to develop others

**Borger Refinery**

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle approximately 50 miles northeast of Amarillo. The refinery processes 148 mbpd of light and medium gravity sour crudes plus fractionates 30 mbpd of mixed natural gas liquids. The Borger Refinery produces LPG and motor fuels products for the Rocky Mountains, West Texas and Central U.S. market areas. Additionally, the Borger Refinery produces pentane and heptane solvents for specialty products applications.
