Exelis Corporation seeks a Contamination Control Engineer for its Geospatial Systems organization in the Rochester New York area. This position will be responsible for providing engineering support to the Products Integration Flow, from design evaluation against contamination requirements through component assessment to verification of entire system cleanliness, while working across several programs simultaneously. In this position the employee will support the precision cleaning and thermal vacuum bakeout work center; develop and implement precision cleaning, cleanliness verification, and thermal vacuum bakeout improvement projects; support cleanroom operations, assembly operations, and environmental testing; and generate and execute contamination control plans. Will work under general direction and follows established procedures.
Required Experience: • B.S. degree in Engineering or related technical field with 3-6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens and be willing to submit to a background investigation, as a government security clearance might be required for this position
• Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and implement assembly processes and process improvements.
• Able to demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment with people of diverse skill sets and experience levels, including taking and providing technical direction, providing concise, relevant technical rationale, and collaborating with other engineers, technicians and management staff.
• Willing to work overtime, shift work or extended shifts, weekends and holidays and on call
• Willing to work in clean rooms in full clean room suits which includes a full face mask
Desired Skills: • 5 years of experience in Aerospace/Defense industry
• Knowledge in ISO-14644 Cleanrooms and Controlled Environments.
• Knowledge of IEST-STD-CC1246 as well as ASTM E 595 and 1559 testing.
• Experience implementing contamination controls in collaboration with design, assembly, test, and inspection functions.
• Familiar with analytical testing services. Demonstrated use of analytical test data to drive to root cause of technical problems.
• Familiar with precision cleaning processes and thermal vacuum testing.
• Familiar with design, construction, or operation of cleanliness controlled work environments.
• Works across organizational boundaries and geographic sites.
• Data driven solution provider.
• Demonstrated ability to react to shifting priorities and conflicting requests.
• Excellent communication skills.
