**Business Area Overview** About Technology

Our Technology team provides the essential digital infrastructure that underpins Pearson’s global portfolio of products and platforms\. We have open and collaborative teams in place working to build efficient global platforms and scaling digital products to reach hundreds of millions of learners around the world, while delivering elastic, secure, data\-driven services\.

The Technology team also drives and coordinates how we work with technology partners to establish Pearson as a destination for innovation in education\. Our aim is to ensure that our customers have access to more products and learning solutions in more regions while continually offering a high\-quality user experience\.

CTO: Core

The CTO team for Core ensures regional priorities are built into the strategic technology and product roadmaps, and will drive revenue for the Core region \(UK, Europe, Australia, Singapore\) and Pearson overall through its established markets\.

**Position Description** The Project Manager reports to the PMO Manager, and is accountable for the end to end delivery of small to medium business initiatives from inception to close down\. During delivery, the Project Manager has full responsibility for the project deliverables and their acceptance, and reports progress, issues, risks and successes to the Project Sponsor and Steering Committee and the PMO\. The Project Manager may sometimes work as part of a large Programme having accountability for a project within the overall delivery\. Project Manager’s responsibilities include:

**Key Responsibilities** Managing the early inception and initiation of projects with business owners; defining the project approach and estimating the project delivery with subject matter experts; supporting project success and achieving business benefits with a correctly structured and resourced project delivery team

+ Advising business stakeholders so that programmes and projects align with the Pearson strategy, and technology is used in ways that best advance achievement of the strategic objectives
+ Supporting the development of business cases
+ Planning and defining the end of end project required to achieve business outcomes based on best practice project/programme management techniques
+ Defining an appropriate delivery approach, peer reviewed and validated by experts
+ Facilitating project estimating with set tolerances and an agreed risk profile
+ Setting and agreeing the project budget with the project sponsor, agreeing budget tolerances
+ Resourcing the project phases appropriately with the correct team experience, skills and roles

Managing the end to end delivery of the project for both business and technology components, ensuring alignment to business objectives and benefits, and business and operational acceptance of the final solution; accountability for project success \(budget, schedule and quality\)

+ Managing analysis and requirements gathering, configuration and customisation, testing and implementation, business acceptance and change, ensuring all workstreams are resourced \(skills & experience\) and delivered appropriately
+ Creating and maintaining project controls such as status reports, issues and risk logs, change registers
+ Taking accountability for dependency, risk and issue management; managing their mitigation across scope, time and budget; and impacts on technology and business domains
+ Managing and tracking the project budget and costs \(including the lifetime costs\)
+ Creating, updating and tracking project performance to the overall project plan
+ Proposing solutions to major issues, seeking acceptance from project sponsor and Steering Group
+ Overseeing vendor management activities, ensuring that they are tightly controlled and that appropriate knowledge and control is retained by Pearson
+ Managing the quality of deliverables to defined and agreed acceptance criteria
+ Communicating effectively to project sponsor, Steering Group and stakeholders, translating project delivery speak to business terminology to promote business confidence and buy\-in
+ Leading, supporting and motivating the project team; leading by example and driving project momentum and energy, addressing performance issues
+ Completing effective project closedown, including lessons learnt log

Managing the involvement of Pearson stakeholders in project delivery, building a single team of technology and business resources, and supporting their participation in the definition and acceptance of the solution

+ Supporting the business owner in tracking benefits and realisation plans
+ Ensuring that all key stakeholder groups are involved throughout the project lifecycle, supporting the transition into Operations
+ Managing business change in a manner sympathetic to the business and designed to ensure clarity and understanding of the changes being implemented\.
+ Communicating to all stakeholder to maintain buy\-in and confidence in the project delivery
+ Identifying and implementing change management techniques to ensure the adoption of the solution and return of investment is achieved

+ Experience of technology solutions and implementation
+ Experience of delivering to multi\-location, timezone and cultured teams

Related work experience

+ Experience of working in IT/Business/Publishing
+ Project management experience in managing small to medium\-sized cross\-functional teams
+ Experience of implementing business solutions \(enabled by technology\) into large federated organizations
+ Proven track record of influencing senior level management and stakeholders
+ Maintaining business buy\-in and adoption to the solution throughout the delivery lifecycle

Formal education or equivalent

+ Strong academic grounding coupled with sound technical capabilities\.
+ PRINCE Practitioner, PMI or equivalent
