The Business Excellence team at AbbVie helps the business optimize performance through continuous improvement as a key business strategy, facilitate the development of organizational vision and long-term strategies and provide Continuous Improvement expertise and resources across R&D and the pipeline.

The function of the Business Excellence Assistant Director is to drive implementation of continuous improvement programs within R&D globally. This job entails leading numerous high impact process improvement projects across the organization. Key goals would include identifying opportunities to significantly reduce cycle time and increase efficiency and then leading the implementation effort to achieve these savings. Additionally, this role will improve the capability of the organization by training and mentoring personnel on Business Excellence tools (Lean, Six Sigma) and provide mentoring and leadership to Sponsors, Black-Belt and Greenbelt candidates.

Business Excellence Assistant Director
Key Responsibilities Include:

Assists leadership in the identification and implementation of improvement projects that are aligned with business goals, using a variety of continuous improvement methods (project management, Lean, Six Sigma (DMAIC) and Change Management, innovation, etc.)
Personally leads and manages multiple continuous improvement projects
Facilitate Kaizen events and workshops
Implements strategic, complex process improvement projects across the division
Provide regular communications with other Business Excellence Managers and Division Business Excellence team.
Act as a technical leader in the implementation of change management best practices.
Facilitate and promote sharing of best practices.
Establish/maintain network of key network change agents.
Drive benchmarking/sharing best practice and support the development of a global knowledge management network.
Acts as a cross-cultural change agent to drive and sustain measurable business process improvements

Develops training curriculum and content and instructs Black Belts and Green Belts on BEx methodologies and tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Six-Sigma (DMAIC), Statistical Analysis, Lean, Kaizen and Continuous Improvement.

Provides ongoing coaching and mentoring to Sponsors, BB/GB candidates on proper use of tools and improvement processes.

Be a focal point for continuous improvement expertise and trouble-shooting.

Responsible for supporting successful execution of continuous improvement initiatives globally through project leadership
Responsible for developing and managing complex project timelines
Responsible for ensuring consistency across the continuous improvement implementation and processes
Responsible for establishing formal benchmarking processes Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor’s degree required
7-10 or more years’ experience
BS 7, MS 4, PhD 2
Must have a proven track record in large project management
Must possess the ability to operate in a matrix management situation
Strong analytical skills and familiarity with statistical analysis (e.g. Minitab, JMP)
Practical knowledge and/or experience of implementing Lean and/or Six Sigma are mandatory

Preferred:

Accredited Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt Certification preferred (e.g. American Society for Quality) Accredited certification in project management or equivalent preferred (e.g. Project Management Institute)
Preferred degree disciplines: Sciences, Engineering.
Previous supervisory experience preferred
