Mrs. Elizabeth Tee during her speech in the Parents’ Orientation 2015
Good morning, fellow parents! My name is Elizabeth Tee. This morning, I was asked to share my experiences as a Jubilee parent, and in some way may it be an encouragement to all of you.
I have 4 children who are all studying here in Jubilee Christian Academy. They are in Grade 10, Grade 8, Grade 6 and the youngest who is still in Grade 4. Having 4 children nowadays is not common, so I can be classified as a professional MOM. I was a working mom before, but I resigned from my work to concentrate on being a hands-on mom… and I had no regrets. Fortunately, my husband’s work doesn’t require him to be in the office regularly so both of us are always there to be hands-on parents to our 4 children.
From our early married life, choosing a school for our children was something that we didn’t consider till the time came that our eldest child is already old enough to enter big school. My husband and I both graduated from the same high school… but we are not Jubilee alumni. Our first option was to enroll our child in our old school, but when compared to Jubilee’s improvement and by friends’ recommendations, we decided to enroll our eldest child in Jubilee… and the 3 younger children followed.
The school is very strict most especially regarding the safety of our children which we truly appreciated, even though sometimes it can be a hassle to us. Jubilee not only disciplines our children, but we parents are also disciplined and taught to be responsible.
Discipline is what we have always instilled in our children. Since their younger years, we have taught our children to be independent and disciplined, not only in attitude, but also in their actions… most especially in their studies.
As early as their preschool days, we did not allow them to have tutors during school days so
that they will learn to be diligent in listening to their teachers. We always tell them that they should only ask us for help if they need to, but as much as possible, do their own studies themselves. At first it was a struggle but eventually they adjusted to it. Every time that they get honors and medals, we always tell them that it is their own reward for their hard work. This encourages them to maintain their good standing in school.
We also encourage them to join extra-curricular activities that will make them enjoy their school life because we don’t want them to be so focused only on academics. And we also give them the freedom to choose what they want to join. As their parents, we are always there to encourage and support them, and to make sacrifices if needed.
From what I’ve shared, you might be mistaken in thinking we haven’t encountered any problems with Jubilee. Well, like all of you, we had our own share of complaints and admittedly, Jubilee is not a perfect school. We are not blind to the school’s shortcomings and faults.
As I’ve mentioned, I am a hands-on mom and this motivated me to be involved in my children’s school life since they are mostly in school every day. This entails me volunteering in whatever activities that my children is involved in. In this way, I will be able to monitor and see for myself how they are really doing and how the school handles our children.
This led me to JCAPA. I started my involvement as a volunteer in field trips, assisting in preschool recognitions and eventually being an officer of JCAPA. For this school year, I am serving as the Secretary of JCAPA.
Being in JCAPA made me actively aware that I am not the only one with complaints about the school. Now, I am not only dealing with my own problems with Jubilee but also the problems of all JCA parents who course their complaints through JCAPA. As JCAPA officers, we are the one to forward to JCA all complaints and suggestions of parents. This leads us to being able to communicate directly to the management and staff of JCA, and personally hearing their side of the story.
Most of the time, upon hearing their side, we can eventually understand and get to know their point of view. We then relay their response to the concerned parents. There are also instances that JCA takes note of the concerns and suggestions of the parents, and the school is also ready to admit and correct any fault on their part. In this way, we can see that the school encourages open communication as long as it is done in a respectful manner. Not all schools are open to communicate with the parents of their students as some of you may know.
In summary, enrolling my children in Jubilee is my CHOICE and being happy with this decision is also my CHOICE. If you chose to enroll your children here in Jubilee, then learn to be happy with that decision. There is no perfect school but as long as your children is doing well, as mine is, then I’m satisfied with this choice.
As much as possible, be involved with your children’s school activities. Volunteer, if you can, so that you can personally see for yourself how they are really doing.
Eventually, my children will graduate from high school, move on and finish college to become professionals… then that’s the time that I can truly see what Jubilee has really taught them.
As stated in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Thank you for listening and enjoy the rest of the day.

Junior High School (JHS) Department Parents’ Orientation
How my JCA journey has helped me in my university life
Patrick Shaun N. Ngo
JCA Alumni Batch 2014
June 19, 2015 E. Rodriguez Campus, Quezon City
Patrick Shaun Ngo during his speech in the Parents’ Orientation 2015
To our principal, Mrs. Evelyn M. Malabunga-Bumatay, teachers, parents, my fellow Jubileans, on behalf of Batch 2014, a blessed morning to you all!
To those who do not know me yet, I am Patrick Shaun Ngo, a proud alumnus of Jubilee Christian Academy who graduated last April 2, 2014, now an incoming sophomore at De La Salle. Though a Lasallian, but ALWAYS a Jubilean.
Compared to my fellow alumni batchmates, I have only spent four years of my life here in JCA, however, now that I am journeying towards my career, I can confidently say that those four years have been worthwhile. My JCA journey has indeed, helped me in many different ways:
Academics – As you can see, this is the average flowchart of any Lasallian engineering student like me. La Salle, having three terms in every academic year, chooses to hold classes in a faster way compared to the other universities having the usual semestral system. Lessons are tightly packed, long exams come and go quickly and sometimes you might not expect when that next “hell week” will come, giving you too much to write on your to-do lists. But despite this, everything has a purpose. A stressed, jam-packed schedule will always motivate you to work efficiently under pressure. In my high school life, deadlines and tests were always normal, but prepared me for the tough challenges that the engineering curriculum provides.
Balance in academics and student activities – Excellence in academics and student activities has always been emphasized in Jubilee’s mission and vision and as an alumni, I have realized its importance and impact, as I entered college. While academics supplies you with the fundamental skills and knowledge, participating in student activities will really empower you, mold you into service-oriented individuals. Collectively, many Jubileans in La Salle have key positions in their respective student organizations and are often on the Dean’s Honor List. A fellow Lasallian once told me, “Jubileans are one the university’s precious assets.” Some would tell me, “Jubileans, matatalino” or “Kilala mo ba si ano, active yan sa ganun.” These remarks make me even prouder at the way Jubilee teach its students to serve wholeheartedly just as Christ did to his people.
My Orgs – Because of my training in the Strings Sonata, I was able to join the Lasallian Youth Orchestra. Training hours were longer and more rigorous (8 hrs/wk), but that form of training enabled us to perform regularly in the school auditorium of the university. In that auditorium, as we performed, we were able to see how stage production is being rendered, as if we were part of a legit show in CCP. It was really a prestige for anyone to be part of the orchestra. I can say that those simple, but productive training hours spent with Strings Sonata inside the music room has opened a window of opportunity for me to experience greater things out there. Parents, teachers, continue to support interest clubs here in Jubilee, for they will become avenues for students to have a wonderful college life.
Spiritual/Values – Since La Salle is quite far from my house in Quezon City, I chose to live in the school dorm across Taft Avenue, but living outside home poses a lot of risks: walking at night after attending org meetings, witnessing floods every rainy season, having the fear of pickpockets, and especially, encountering smokers and drinkers along the way. Temptations were always around. College life, in terms of freedom, is a far cry from high school life, in which the environment is safe and orderly and teachers are constantly guiding you. Living in the dorm, has helped me realize that living an independent life is dependent on one’s values and principles. With this, I believe that the school, has instilled me with Christ-like values that guide me every day and allow me to prioritize on dreams and responsibilities that truly matter.
Social Well-Being – It is very typical for college students to meet new people every day, people from different schools and backgrounds. This is why it is important to know how to socialize, for this skill will you gain more friends and connections. I remember that time when I first entered Jubilee, I was that shy, timid student seated in front of the Rizal classroom, feeling socially awkward. But going through my high school life, has made me into a more sociable and helpful person, despite my introversion. JCA has provided me many opportunities to get to know more people, whether they may be students from other batches, or valuable resource speakers that can serve as future connections. Choosing the right group of friends was not a difficult task for me. Basically the main tip, is to always be involved in every way. These are my blockmates who have been close to me during my academic year…. My engineering batch….and my newfound band which composed of my two dormamates and me.
Currently, I got accepted as an intern in AMH Philippines, an academe-linked civil engineering consultancy firm based in UP Diliman and I will also be serving as a Lasallian Ambassador in the upcoming freshman orientation. These are golden windows of opportunities that Jubilee, through upholding its values of Christ-likeness: excellence in academics and student activities, personal discipline, love and service, has opened up for me.
Parents, teachers, be a source of inspiration to our young Jubileans. Support them not just academically, but expose them more to the world outside their comfort zones.
Fellow Jubileans, as young as you are, know more about yourselves, and explore more. Build up your passions, hone your God-given skills and talents for these will become your vital assets as you go through college. Join and be active in school clubs, but remember to maintain balance with academics.
Once again, good morning, and God bless us all!
