1. alright…we’re going to have some FOOTBALL FUN TODAY…..because, tonight’s the big night…..
THE NFL DEBUTS TONIGHT with a classic matchup between the BALTIMORE RAVENS and the DENVER BRONCOS…..
can’t wait to see football again…unfortunately, i’ll be bowling, but i’ll be checking the tv…….it’s the night all football fans have been waiting months for……
as football fans we have to say this……the season is awesome…the SUPER BOWL is awesome…but those LONG LONG LONG LONG months between the SUPER BOWL and the start of the season just drag……but, nowdays is better because of one thing……
my wife asked me one day how I can sit there and watch an NFL game that was played months ago…she said “you already know the outcome.” I told her that “it’s no different than us watching reruns of tv shows and movies…we know the outcome.” THANK GOODNESS FOR THE NFL NETWORK…it’s been fun watching all of the TOP TEN SHOWS, plus I love the series called “A FOOTBALL LIFE.” it makes those long nights feel shorter until the season starts……..

AND……how could I possibly do a salute to football, without RIPPING APART “AMERICA’S TEAM.” my most hated team in sports….THE DALLAS COWBOYS….by the way, did you know that they gave THEMSELVES the nickname “AMERICA’S TEAM?” it’s true…..yet another reason to dislike them….
wow…their cheerleaders have let themselves go….

3. the NFL season is another time for me to “regroup” my REDSKINS room at home….I have so many items in there and I keep adding to them….much to my wife’s dismay….anyway, here are two of my favorite things in my REDSKINS room….autographed jerseys from legendary quarterbacks BILLY KILMER AND JOE THEISMANN…..

4. everybody knows who i’m going to be cheering for……..
that’s right, it’s my beloved WASHINGTON REDSKINS….can’t wait until Monday night when they take on the PHILADELPHIA EAGLES….and it marks the triumphant return of one, ROBERT GRIFFIN III…or “RG3.”
in case you’ve been living under a rock, RG3 had a devastating knee injury at the end of last season…….and he’s ready to go, kind of like ADRIAN PETERSON speed…..if you watched ADRIAN PETERSON last year, you marveled at how quickly he got over that knee surgery….RG3 is going to set out to be the next miracle case….I cant’ wait to see how it turns out…..
5. I get asked constantly the question, “how did you become a WASHINGTON REDSKINS fan?” well, let me tell you…..since I was small, I was always a MINNESOTA VIKINGS fan…used to love watching FRAN TARKENTON, ALLAN PAGE, PAUL KRAUSE…ROY WINSTON…..CHUCK FOREMAN…..JOHN GILLIAM……and, of course, their incredible head coach BUD GRANT….I will always cheer for the VIKINGS, unless they play my REDSKINS…well, here’s what happened…I believe it was in the early 70′s when the VIKINGS went to WASHINGTON to play the REDSKINS…I had never seen the SKINS play before…….the very first thing that turned me on to them was their quarterback, BILLY KILMER….I loved his “single bar helmet”, and that fact that he lumbered around like an old man behind the running back, and threw kind of SIDE ARM….he was fun to watch…and, as a young boy, I fell in love with the colors of the team, too….but probably the main thing that got me turned on was the fan base…they were absolutely breathing REDSKINS football….after that game, I became a diehard WASHINGTON REDSKINS fan…I think I was like 7 or 8 years old…..and as I mentioned, I still cheer for the VIKINGS every single week…unless they are playing my team…….
6. okay…here’s my quick take on the NFL teams this year………(please don’t hold me to any of my comments by the end of the season…)
ARIZONA CARDINALS: they are going to struggle….they have a long way to go…I feel sorry for LARRY FITZGERALD having to go thru this….I wish he could play with a team that could get him a championship…he’s a great player….maybe CARSON PALMER can change things up, but it looks like a long season coming up….
ATLANTA FALCONS: lots of people are picking them to be SUPER BOWL favorites…..I can’t disagree, other than they are coming from one of the toughest divisions in football….MATT RYAN will again, be the glue that holds the team together…i’m not worried about their passing game with the likes of JULIO JONES running down the field…what i’m waiting for is to see how their new running back STEVEN JACKSON will do….
BALTIMORE RAVENS: last year’s SUPER BOWL winner….tough team….JOE FLACCO doesn’t seem to get the respect that he deserves……it will be fun seeing what they do this year without bigmouth RAY LEWIS playing with them…..don’t be surprised if they are right in the thick of it come playoff time…..
BUFFALO BILLS: I don’t know…I also see a long season for them….rookie quarterback E. J. MANUEL is getting the nod here…..i’m surprised they got rid of quarterback RYAN FITZPATRICK….he seemed to finally get his game together and now he’s with the TITANS….the injury to KEVIN KOLB could be a career ender….that’s sad….and, it’s going to have to be showtime for C. J. SPILLER…time will tell….
CAROLINA PANTHERS: i’m not completely sold on CAM NEWTON….my relatives in LANCASTER, SOUTH CAROLINA would disagree, but I was disappointed to see how immature he acted a few times last year when he lost…..he needs to be a solid leader for this team to win….and who doesn’t like perennial wide receiver STEVE SMITH…he’s like the Duracell bunny…he just keeps going…and going…and going…..
CHICAGO BEARS: new coach…new direction…..which direction will it be? hopefully up….BRIAN URLACHER isn’t playing anymore….will that change the defense? they’re going to be playing in a division that I think, Is up for grabs……
CINCINNATI BENGALS: I continue to be a big fan of wide receiver A. J. GREEN…I like him so much that I picked him up on my fantasy football team……and, ANDY DALTON continues to amaze at quarterback…..this could be the year that the BUNGULS….I mean, BENGALS go deep in the playoffs….
CLEVELAND BROWNS: I feel sorry for them….they seem to be a disaster every single year…just when they get some momentum, something screws it up…my uncle DENNIS has been a diehard BROWNS fan for decades….I feel for him….and I feel for their fans…hopefully, the “DOGPOUND” will be howling this year in CLEVELAND….
DALLAS COWBOYS: i’m going to TRY and be objective for a few minutes…..ooops…just threw up in my mouth….oh well..here goes……truthfully, I feel sorry for TONY ROMO…he just can’t seem to get a break….and now he’s playing with INCREDIBLE STRESS after that huge new contract……COWBOY’S owner, JERRY JONES, who makes me sick to my stomach, wants to win NOW…..the BOYS are also in a very tough division this year with PHILADELPHIA, WASHINGTON, AND NEW YORK GIANTS….any one of these teams can win that division…for JASON GARRETT’S sake, it had better be DALLAS….
DENVER BRONCOS: all signs point to the SUPER BOWL…seriously, a lot of people are picking them……how can you go wrong with PEYTON MANNING at the helm? the guys a legend….and he’s playing for JOHN ELWAY…another legend…..i’m waiting to see what their new running back MONTEE BALL can do….this rookie from WISCONSIN has the power to become a big star quickly…..will it happen? let’s find out…starting tonight…
DETROIT LIONS: my pick to win the NFC NORTH….seriously…..the “MOTOR CITY KITTIES” are sitting right there, waiting to pounce…..I think the one cog missing was a solid running game….and now, enter REGGIE BUSH…yeah, that REGGIE BUSH….with REGGIE in the backfield, CALVIN JOHNSON screaming down the sidelines and MATTHEW STAFFORD throwing to him, things could click…if they do, WATCH OUT……
GREEN BAY PACKERS: they too, could easily win the division again…how can you root against AARON RODGERS? the guy is amazing……the problem is, yet ANOTHER PACKERS player has gone to the VIKINGS….i’m talking about GREGG JENNINGS….plus, DONALD DRIVER retired….a lot of this success could be riding on their headcase JERMICHAEL FINLEY…if he can manage his game, and the running backs can compliment the passing game, the PACKERS could do well…unfortunately, their defense could struggle, too….
HOUSTON TEXANS: MATT SCHAUB….ARIAN FOSTER……ANDRE JOHNSON….OWEN DANIELS….all the key components are there……but, not a lot of people are picking them….MATT SCHAUB was the 23rd ranked quarterback in my NFL fantasy league…that’s a huge drop…of course, if any team from TEXAS has to win, i’ll take these guys……
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: with any “LUCK” they will be much better…ANDREW LUCK is just plain good….he’s solid…he’s a great replacement for PEYTON MANNING…if he can stay healthy, they can be good…if he gets chased around and banged up, look out……
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS: one word….UGH…..it’s going to be a super long season in JACKSONVILLE…..
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: if anybody can turn this team around it’s their new head coach ANDY REID….but, will quarterback ALEX SMITH show up? can the running game stay healthy? they can’t do much worse than last year….coach REID will make sure of that….
MIAMI DOLPHINS: what will RYAN TANNEHILL’S second season be like? well, it had better be on the upswing…DOLPHIN’S owners put a lot of money and stock into wide receiver MIKE WALLACE who came over from PITTSBURGH…my projection? mediocre….8-8…..just can’t decide on this team…..
MINNESOTA VIKINGS: I have a few comments on my second favorite team…first of all, I am not sold at all on CHRISTIAN PONDER….I think that the VIKINGS would be better off if MATT CASSEL is playing…which he will, by week four in my estimation…….and to VIKING’S fans? YOU’RE WELCOME…I say that because of your new receiver CORDARRELLE PATTERSON coming over from my TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS….I loved watching him on my VOLS…and you VIKINGS fans are going to grow to love this kid……I can’t figure out this team…they had a good record last year, but can they do it again? can they win the division? I don’t think so..I HOPE SO, but I don’t think so……..
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: once again, the most well-oiled team in the NFL….every single year, in and out, they are in contention…..and with TOM BRADY at the helm, again, it’s going to be solid again…..most teams would have destructed after the off field crap the PATRIOTS had to deal with over AARON HERNANDEZ…but the PATRIOTS staff and management kept mum….they didn’t comment every day…they just did it the proper way…the cut his butt……got rid of him…and once he was gone, no more talking about him……whether you like them or not, the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS are the “classy team of the NFL.” and trust me…they’ll once again be right there at the end…..
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: well, their head coach is back…SEAN PAYTON is back from his suspension and ready to fight…..and fight he will….he’ll be standing on the sidelines making that frumpy face that I cannot stand to watch…..but he wins…he’s successful…and anytime you have DREW BREES on your team, you stand the chance of going deep in the playoffs……PAYTON, i’m sure, feels like he has something to prove to NFL commissioner ROGER GOODELL…and if PAYTON has his way, it will be GOODELL having to hand over the LOMBARDI trophy to him……
NEW YORK GIANTS: once again, they are going to be super tough….ELI MANNING continues to get better…TOM COUGHLIN, although possibly the crankiest man in the NFL, is one of the better coaches in the NFL….the GIANTS could easily win the division…and, they could easily implode………it’s a watch, wait and see with the “G-MEN.”
NEW YORK JETS: the laughing stock of football…REX RYAN needs to go….their offseason shenanigans have been hilarious……RYAN sells out his rookie quarterback to the media after a preseason game….RYAN throws SANCHEZ to the wolves in the fourth quarter of a preseason game AND HE GETS HURT…..this team is a disaster…if they win six games they’ll be darn lucky…..
OAKLAND RAIDERS: they are starting TERRELL PRYOR as their quarterback…..that pretty much sums it up……
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: new coach CHIP KELLY comes into the NFL as a high powered offensive guy….he has MIKE VICK to throw the ball downfield…he has some pretty good targets and a pretty stellar defense…..this could be the EAGLE’S year to rebound…it should be fun watching them……except for week one when they play my SKINS…they MUST lose that game…….
PITTSBURGH STEELERS: this is the favorite team of my boss…so, I have to respect them….maybe…ha ha….BIG BEN is a perennial great quarterback…will it be enough? losing MIKE WALLACE had to hurt this offense, and the defense is getting older…..my guess? 9-7…or maybe 8-8…but never doubt MIKE TOMLIN…he may completely show me wrong….
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS: new coach…new motivation…probably same outcome……their quarterback PHILLIP RIVERS just can’t get over the hump….NORV TURNER didn’t do him any favors…..CHARGER’S fans are sick of waiting…it’s “poop or get off the pot” time in SAN DIEGO…….
SAN FRANCISCO 49′ERS: tough tough tough tough team….love their coach…..great quarterback…..great running game…excellent wide receivers….great defense……what am I saying? DON’T BE SUPRISED IF THEY WIN IT ALL…they just about did it last year…..
ST. LOUIS RAMS: mediocre at best….i’m not a SAM BRADFORD fan….I think they could have done much better in that position….and losing DANNY AMENDOLA to the PATRIOTS hurt the passing game…and oh yeah, STEVEN JACKSON isn’t there either…..could be a long season for RAM’S fans….
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: I completely love their running back DOUG MARTIN…this guy could be the top running back in the game if it weren’t for ADRIAN PETERSON…..JOSH FREEMAN is a good quarterback….this is one team that wouldn’t surprise me if they won their division….SUPER BOWL champs? probably not…but the potential to be a super good team….
TENNESSEE TITANS: my son TYLER’S favorite team……running back CHRIS JOHNSON drives me nuts…I’ve picked him up twice to be my fantasy starting running back and he HAS SUCKED….and the years I don’t pick him up, he rocks….well, TITANS’ fans, I didn’t pick him up this year…..so, we’ll see….and by the way, JAKE LOCKER is not your answer at quarterback…it’s RYAN FITZPATRICK, who you paid a ton of money to get…LOCKER had better start fast, or he’ll be carrying a clipboard…..
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: probably the scariest team in the NFL…..RUSSELL WILSON is a fantastic quarterback…he can throw…he can run..he can block……this team could easily waltz into the SUPER BOWL…..for a couple of years running….don’t be shocked…..I just don’t like their arrogant player RICHARD SHERMAN….he’s got a mouth that never shuts up….and i’m not a fan of their coach PETE CARROLL…he got out of the college scene right before his program crashed….he should have been held accountable….oh well, his punishment will probably be hoisting up the LOMBARDI trophy……
AND FINALLY….
MY WASHINGTON REDSKINS: I know I sound like a homer, but this team is tough….they have the right core of players that could put them in the running for a deep playoff run…..quarterback RG3 must play smarter…he’s an incredible talent…he just needs to not get hit…..their backup quarterback KIRK COUSINS could quarterback about 24 of the other teams……our second year running back ALFRED MORRIS is coming off a record setting season….he will be fun to watch……for my team, I say 10-6 and a divisional championship for the second year….once again, time will tell….
