2. yesterday we had our “polka church service” outdoors at the park in HECLA….GOD really granted us one of the most beautiful days we could have ever asked for……we had church, then a huge picnic…and I tried something I have NEVER EVEN HEARD OF BEFORE….know what it was? YELLOW WATERMELON…..
it was really good…a little softer taste than the normal red watermelon…but, I would eat it again….
I normally don’t like to change things up this much….I know one thing I was not able to use…..we ended up throwing a bottle away…..remember green ketchup? that just freaked me out too much….
3. well, we went out with friends on Friday night…went to see the new movie “GROWN UPS” with KEVIN JAMES, ADAM SANDLER, CHRIS ROCK, DAVID SPADE and many more……my critique? if we weren’t with friends, JEANNIE AND I would have walked out of the theater…..keep in mind, this is only two people’s opinions….WE DISLIKED IT VERY MUCH….the jokes and the humor seemed “forced” to me…it’s like the characters were standing there waiting for the punchline….and we didn’t think the humor was all that funny…….to me, this doesn’t even warrant putting another picture on my blog of it……..
4. speaking of movies….ARE YOU READY TO FEEL OLD? guess what movie is now 35 years old? THIRTY FIVE YEARS OLD….here it is…..
that’s right, “NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE” is 35 years old….incredible….and STILL one of the FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER….i’m going to use most of my blog to find out where the actors are today…and see what they look like….you may be a bit surprised by some of them….
first of all, the great JOHN BELUSHI….JOHN, of course, got his start on “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE” where he had some legendary moments…..but his portrayal of BLUTO BLUTARSKY was also legendary….sadly, as you probably remember, JOHN BELUSHI died in 1982 at the age of 1982 at the age of 33….
TOM HULCE played LARRY “PINTO” KROGER….HULCE went on to appear in the 1984 movie “AMADEUS”, plus had a big role in DISNEY’S “THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.” TOM HULCE is now 59….
I think one of the most memorable characters in the movie was ERIC “OTTER” STRATTON played perfectly by TIM MATHESON….I didn’t know that he broked into show business in the 60′s on “LEAVE IT TO BEAVER” and “MY THREE SONS.” MATHESON is still acting, but is probably best known recently for playing VICE PRESIDENT JOHN HOYNES in his EMMY nominated role on “THE WEST WING.” TIM MATHESON is now 65….wow….
KEVIN BACON played CHIP DILLER in the movie….we all remember KEVIN BACON for “FOOTLOOSE” and dozens of other movies and tv shows….he also has a hit show on FOX called “THE FOLLOWING.” KEVIN BACON is now 55 years old….
the beautiful KAREN ALLEN played “KATY” in the hit movie….she was in the movie “STARMAN” and many others, but my wife and I love her in the BILL MURRAY movie “SCROOGED.” we watch that movie a dozen times a year…..KAREN ALLEN is now 61……..
the great actor DONALD SUTHERLAND played the creepy professor DAVE JENNINGS….DONALD is known for dozens, if not hundreds of roles including the movie version of “M*A*S*H”, “INVASIONS OF THE BODY SNATCHERS” and most recently “THE HUNGER GAMES.” DONALD SUTHERLAND is now 78…SEVENTY EIGHT…that can’t be….
STEPHEN FURST had the memorable role of “FLOUNDER.” including the famous line “MAY I HAVE 10,000 MARBLES PLEASE?” he had appeared in other roles including TV’s “ST. ELSEWHERE” and “BABYLON 5.” STEPHEN FURST is now 58 years old….
BRUCE MCGILL played “DANIEL D-DAY SIMPSON.” BRUCE played JACK DALTON on “MCGYVER.” he most recently was in the movie “LINCOLN.” I seriously didn’t know that this guy played “D-DAY.”
DEWAYNE JESSIE played “OTIS DAY” the musical part of “ANIMAL HOUSE.” he is now 60….
JAMES WIDDOES played the fraternity president “ROBERT HOOVER.” he appeared on episodes of “NIGHT COURT” “REMINGTON STEELE” and many more…in the last couple of decades he has directed and produced dozens of tv shows including “EMPTY NEST”, “REBA” and “TWO AND A HALF MEN” among others…JAMES is now 59…..
remember MR. AND MRS. DEAN WORMER? they were played by JOHN VERNON and VERNA BLOOM….JOHN VERNON died in 2005 at the age of 72…..VERNA BLOOM is now 73 years old….
the guy that sat in the stairway singing “I GAVE MY LOVE A CHERRY” is actually a big music star….remember STEPHEN BISHOP? he had big pop hits like “ON AND ON”, “SAVE IT FOR A RAINY DAY”, and the theme from the movie “TOOTSIE” called “IT MIGHT BE YOU.” during this movie, STEPHEN BISHOP sang the song and JOHN BELUSHI came over and smashed his guitar….great scene…STEPHEN BISHOP is now 61….
the guy that everybody loved to hate in “ANIMAL HOUSE” was the ROTC leader, DOUG NEIDERMEYER….he was played by MARK METCALF…he is now 67 years old….
MARTHA SMITH is the beautiful actress who played “BABS” the soriety girl….MARTHA is now 59 years old…
and finally, PETER RIEGERT played the funny role of “BOON” on the movie….PETER is now 66 years old…
well, that was fun…makes me want to go watch the movie tonight….
5. BUT I CAN’T….two of my friends and I are going to see the movie “THE CONJURING.” yes, I saw it already, but these girls won’t go unless I go with them….so, i’ll take one for the team and go again….I’M ACTUALLY VERY EXCITED….
6. I have to wonder what the heck is going on when the conversation turns to duck penises…..that happened today…..I sincerely can’t tell you how we got there, but we did….I think it was on reproductive units of animals…anyway, found out some incredibly useful, I mean, probably USELESS information about the subject….if you ever want to know about this subject, drop me a line……NOW I KNOW….ha ha
7. JOKE OF THE DAY: (LOVE THIS ONE…)
As a guitarist, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost.
I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.
I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man.
And as I played ‘Amazing Grace,’ the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my guitar and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “I never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.”
Apparently, I’m still lost…
