MANILA, Philippines — Volkswagen Philippines recently held a media appreciation night last January 22, 2016 at Volkswagen BGC showroom that recognized the media’s role in the company’s accomplishments in 2015. It’s also an exciting 2016 as Volkswagen also launched the new Jetta sedan, upgraded Polo and Tiguan.

Starting the appreciation night was the welcoming remarks from the President and Chief Executive Officer John Philip Orbeta and Chief Operating Adviser Klaus Schadewald, thanked the journalists across all media platforms for bringing market awareness for the Volkswagen product line-up and fair, balanced, objective coverage of automotive, Volkswagen news in 2015.

“I express my deepest appreciation to all of you for helping us achieve extensive market awareness for our entire product line-up. I also want to express my gratitude for helping Volkswagen hurdle the challenges along the way, through your balanced, objective and fair reports of the various automotive issues,” said Mr. Orbeta.

Welcoming the 2016 is also the welcoming of the newest addition to Volkswagen PH line-up— the new Jetta sedan in Comfortline variant and Trendline variant.



Perfect for upwardly mobile professionals and young executives, the top grade Comfortline variant features a 2.0 Turbo Common Rail Direct Injection 4-cylinder diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission,  producing a maximum output of 103 kW (140 Ps) at 4,200 rpm, and maximum torque of 236 lb-ft (320Nm) at 1,750 rpm. On the other hand, the new petrol Trendline variant has a 1.4 TSI engine which is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission with 118 kW (160 Ps) at 5,800 rpm of power and maximum torque of 177 lb-ft (240Nm) at 1,500-4,500 rpm.

The new Jetta is also loaded with upgraded drive and safety features such as driver, passenger, side and head curtain airbags, Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) with Comfort Brake Assistant, Antilock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Differential Lock and Anti Slip Regulation, Hill Hold Control, and Cruise Control.

Comfort and entertainment features include front and rear armrests, rear air-conditioning vents and Composition Color with 5″ touchscreen, radio, CD, MP3, USB, Aux-In, and Bluetooth for the infotainment system. Notable exterior touches of the Jetta include “Queensland” 17″ alloy wheels for the Comfortline variant, “Navara” 16” variant for the Trendline, front fog lamps, and redesigned bumpers, headlights and taillamps.

The new Jetta 2.0 TDI DSG Comfortline and 1.4 TSI DSG Trendline are priced at P1,498,000 and P1,378,000, respectively and available in five colors: Pure White, Deep Black Pearl, Ruby Red Metallic, Blue Silk Metallic, and Platinum Grey Metallic (for Comfortline only)

Upgrades to the popular Polo subcompact sedan and compact SUV Tiguan were also announced during the media appreciation night.



Young, upwardly mobile managers will get to appreciate more the new Polo Sedan which now comes with 15″ Tosa alloy wheels, a new chrome radiator grille, Halogen H7 headlights with turn signal lights and headlight-range adjustment, new front and rear bumpers, color-keyed exterior mirrors with turn signal, color-keyed door handles, new rear combination lamp design, and a remote trunk opening switch.

The new Polo Sedan 1.5 TDI MT Trendline and 1.6 MPI AT Trendline are priced at P860,000 and P840,000, respectively, and available in five colors: Candy White, Flash Red, Reflex Silver Metallic, Shadow Blue Metallic, and Carbon Steel Grey.



Families, as well as executives, now get to enjoy more the compact SUV Tiguan. The new features of the Tiguan 2.0 TDI AT Business Edition are highlighted by the “Vienna” leather seats with 12-way electric driver seat, safety-optimized front head restraints with longitudinal and height adjustment, and the RCD510 with color touchscreen audio head unit, radio, CD, MP3, USB, and Aux-In.

The exterior, on the other hand, is made more stylish with the “New York” 18″ alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlamps with headlamp washer and LED daytime running lights, dynamic headlight range adjustment with dynamic cornering lights, auto headlight activation with separate daytime running lights, and electronically adjustable, power folding heated exterior side mirrors with side turn lights.

The Tiguan 2.0 TDI AT Business Edition goes for P2,426,000 and is available in seven colors: Pure White, Deep Black Pearl, Toffee Brown Metallic, Silver Leaf Metallic, Pepper Grey Metallic, Venetian Green Pearl, and Uranus Grey.

Schadewald announced that Volkswagen Philippines will introduce in 2016 the following product developments: The Golf Comfortline and Highline variants; the R-Line of the Passat and Touareg, and; the return of the original rugged version of the iconic Beetle, the Beetle Dune.
