A 90-year-old pilot walked away from a Sunday plane crash at Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport after he flipped his Cessna 150 in a pond while trying to land.
Walter McFadden called Jacksonville Flight Approach to report back problems and asked that paramedics be standing by as he tried to land at the airport at 650 Airport Road.
City Manager Joe Gerrity, who is also airport manager, said the Fernandina Beach pilot flipped while on approach to the airport just south of the city.
