IWFC Toronto member Ratna Omidvar is being appointed to the Senate of Canada. Since arriving in Canada from Iran in 1981, Ratna has built an extraordinary record of service to Canada. She is a globally recognized expert on diversity, inclusion and migration, having led and contributed to many cutting edge projects in these areas. She is a member of the Orders of Ontario and Canada and was The Globe and Mail’s inaugural Nation Builder of the Decade for Citizenship and one of The Economist’s inaugural Top 10 Global Diversity Champions worldwide.

Ratna is past President of the Maytree foundation, founding executive director of Ryerson University’s Global Diversity Exchange, and founding Co-Chair of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (which has since integrated thousands of newcomers into the Canadian workforce), the international Cities of Migration network and DiverseCity: The Greater Toronto Leadership Project, with CivicAction. She recently created Lifeline Syria, which helps private sponsors to bring Syrian refugees to resettle in Toronto, and spoke about this work at an IWFC Toronto breakfast at Deloitte in November, 2015.

We warmly congratulate Ratna on this well-deserved appointment.
