I remember Robert saying speculations of him working on a film with PTA were probably true, so wow I’m surprised and kind of angry right now because I /really/ wanted this to happen. It hurts. A lot.
Exactly. They’re friends in real life, they’ve been talking about this for a long time, and for the first time last December it sounded like Robert was all but confirming it. Then you look at how he actually doesn’t have anything officially scheduled in 2013 and that just added credence to the whole thing.
So to find out suddenly one afternoon that Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly taking over the part really, really sucked.
Sigh.
Although, PTA is planning on filming this fall instead of the initially reported 2014, which is a really fast turnaround for him. Then one of the producers of the film said they’re actually gearing up to start this late April, which is even earlier. If either one of this is the case, I somewhat understand because then Robert would’ve had a scheduling conflict — either April (doing IM3 press) or in the fall (The Judge filming, which Team Downey is producing so it would take priority).
I’m still holding out hope that he still hasn’t completely dropped out.
