There are three main areas of business for event professionals

Traditional event management teams that offer the full event management service such as managing and coordinating corporate conferences, music festivals, trade shows and more

Specialised boutique event agencies that offer specific services such as event marketing, branding, etc.

Own your own business. If you’re someone who can manage it all and love coordinating projects end-to-end, owning your own event services business is a challenging but rewarding experience.

Event Manager

An Event Manager is very much a leadership role whereby you may undertake tasks such as studying the branding messages of the client, identifying the target market, looking after the logistics and technical aspects of an event and devising themes and concepts. An Event Manager will often overseeing large budgets so they are constantly negotiating costs with venues, suppliers and clients. An Event Manager may also manage a team and is responsible for project management by ensuring the event meets all deliverables and deadlines.



Event Planner

Event planning is much more than just pretty decor, fun entertainment and good food. There is always a big plan behind every event and the Event Planner is responsible for making sure there is a comprehensive outline of every event they plan. Depending on the size of the event, it can take three weeks, three months, six months, even a year to plan. Larger events can take up to a year – think large sporting events. So it goes without saying that an Event Planner needs to have fantastic organisational skills. If you’re someone who walks around with a to-do list at all times and feels lost without your diary or calendar, event planning may be your calling!



Wedding Coordinator

A Wedding Coordinator will coordinate with all of a client’s vendors in the lead up the wedding and create a timeline for the big day. If you want to become a Wedding Coordinator then there is a big chance that you’re someone who loves to love, love. As a wedding coordinator you know it’s your job to help others achieve the dream tone for their wedding from beautiful bespoke stationery and styling of the venue, to organising catering, photography, entertainment, décor, floral bouquets and more! The job of a Wedding Coordinator is never dull and the people you meet along the way may just become clients that turn into lifelong friends.

Exhibitions Organiser

A popular job role common to the arts, music and theatre space is the Exhibitions Manager. The Exhibitions Manager acts as project manager for an assigned selection of international, traveling, and permanent collection exhibitions and rotations. An Exhibitions Manager creates and manages contracts, schedules, and budgets for exhibitions and publications while working collaboratively with curatorial colleagues. Many Exhibition Managers author and maintain exhibition fact sheets and program information for each project, working in collaboration with individual departments such as curatorial, education, development, marketing, and publications to confirm content and messaging.

Conference and Events Coordinator

A Conference and Events Coordinator is a professional with the ability to manage administration and logistics of various events. In this role you need to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with some supervision from the Event Manager. Depending on the industry, you may need to work some weeknights and weekends.
