Considering Roger Goodell and Tom Brady’s history with Deflategate, there’s been a great deal of discussion of Goodell having to potentially hand Brady the Super Bowl trophy, or even the MVP trophy next weekend in Houston.

Appearing on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd Wednesday, Goodell was asked if he would be uncomfortable potentially handing the trophy to Brady.

“Not for a second,” Goodell said. “This is one of the great opportunities we have. Two dominant teams playing in the Super Bowl. The Patriots and Falcons have both earned the opportunity to be there. They deserve it and whoever wins that championship is going to have to earn it because these are great teams. I am going to be thrilled.

“Tom Brady is one of the all-time greats. He has been for several years. He’s on the [verge] of at least potentially winning the Super Bowl ring. He’s an extraordinary player. A great performer and a sure-fire Hall of Famer. It would be an honor.”

Goodell handed Brady the Super Bowl MVP trophy following Super Bowl XLIX, but that was before the drama of Deflategate really got started.
