(iTers News) – NXP Semiconductors unveiled its 15W wireless charging solution called WCT-15WTXAUTO which qualifies automotive and industrial grade requirements.

Compatible with charging standards of both wireless power consortium, or WPC Qi and power matters alliance, or PMA, the new wireless solution allows automakers to easily transition from 5W to 15W capabilities.

It will allow the drivers to experience up to 3times faster in-vehicle charging of their mobile phones, tablets and wearable devices.

The new WCT-15WTXAUTO solution supports automotive specific requirements such as AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualification, extended temperature range and a 15 year product longevity guarantee.

It is designed to avoid potential interference with other vehicle systems such as key FOB for keyless entry, ignition and AM band radios.

The API supports seamless integration of NFC chipsets to detect and protect contactless smart cards, CAN bus support for in-vehicle network communication and is customizable for charging, communication and control.

“Wireless charging is now pervading the mobile devices market, and is expanding well beyond traditional consumer charging mats to include in-vehicle charging,” said Denis Cabrol, director of global marketing for NXP’s microcontroller business line. “The automotive environment brings specific challenges to this application and NXP’s solution offers a versatile platform for designers to address these challenges.”

The 15W automotive charging solution that is already deployed in many car models rolling out this year.
