ATA Fall Forum: Telemedicine’s Role in the Changing Health Care Marketplace

This year, ATA Fall Forum kicks off with National Telehealth Lobby Day on Capitol Hill, an exciting opportunity to influence Congress on vital issues in telemedicine.

Effective Lobbying: Training Sessions

The morning begins with training sessions on effective lobbying. From 8:30-9:15AM “How to Have an Effective Congressional Meeting” will be presented by Rose Bauman, former Senatorial Chief of Staff and Martha Kendrick Partner with Akin Gump law firm. 9:15-10AM you can find out “What’s Hot on the Hill” with Gary Capistrant, ATA’s Chief Policy Officer and Alexander Hecht Vice President of Government Relations, ML Strategies and Deputy Director of the Mintz Levin Center for Health Law & Policy. Congressional visits will take place from 10:30AM-4PM on Capitol Hill.

Scheduling Congressional Appointments

Participants will need to schedule Congressional appointments prior to your arrival. For the list of legislators and staff, download the Congressional Directory or contact Senate and House offices by calling the Capitol switchboard, 202-224-3121. Get details at ATA’s policy overview center.

Getting to Congress

Take the Metro. For House access, take the Orange/Blue/Silver lines to Capitol South and for Senate access take the Red line to Union Station. All visitors are required to go through security. Download this U.S. Capitol Map to help you navigate the Hill. For any other assistance with lobby day, contact Latoya Thomas, Director, State Policy Resource Center: *protected email*

Coordinating Hill Visits with others from your State

ATA encourages participants to schedule appointments with other conference attendees from their state. “Teaming up” with others will provide strength in numbers and enhance your ability to secure meetings with Members of Congress. ATA will make available background materials and conference “leave behinds” to assist you in preparing your pro-telehealth message and “asks” for your meetings.
