After failing in their numerous attempts last summer to land Zenit St. Petersburg’s Axel Witsel, the Lombard club looks ready to pursue the Belgian once more.

Axel Witsel was a hot commodity last summer in the Milan camp. Rumors of a massive financial takeover fueled a dream transfer mercato in the summer of 2015 for the red and black to no avail. Instead, the club’s big midfield addition arrived in the name of Andrea Bertolacci who flopped majorily in his first campaign. Now it seems as if the club will re-launch a pursuit for the Belgian, hoping to gift new manager Vincenzo Montella a top midfielder.

According to La Repubblica, the former Fiorentina and Sampdoria boss has asked his new employer to sign a quality midfielder for the upcoming season; Axel Witsel seems to be back on the radar for the red and black outfit.

Currently, the Belgian Red Devil is in the midst of a UEFA European Championship chase for his country as they are set to clash with Wales in the quarter-finals on Friday.
