Technical collaborator and scout of the Rossoneri Angelo Carbone talked to MilanNews.it on some hot topics involving the Milanese giants.

In this in-depth interview with Milannews.it, Angelo Carbone believes Montella has what it takes as a coach to lead the Rossoneri back to the promise land, and is excited about the young players integrating into the first team.

On Montella:

“Montella’s level of play he has implemented in Milan is doing well, especially at a difficult time with all the rumours and news happening with the sale of the club. He is working very well. Montella will lead the Rossoneri back to Europe.”

On the Milan youngsters:

“These players are really showing their value to the club. They are certainly important players and have shown they can deal with the pressure of playing in the 1st team. The fact that they have done so well gives more hope to Milan’s youth sector.”

On Manuel Locatelli:

“I have always liked Locatelli, even when he was on the youth squad. He is an intelligent player with lots of technical quality. He has shown he can play as a regista in front of the defence. Montella does not want to throw him right into the starting lineup too quickly, but rather gradually put him into the lineup. It’s definitely a positive thing for the club.”

Any other interesting young players on Milan?

“I like the young midfielder Zanellato. He made big steps forward in the summer with his pre-season performances. Its early to say but he can develop the quality on the field and in his head to succeed.”

On Maldini rejecting a role at Milan:

“I’m sad that Paolo cannot have a role at Milan right now. I would be really glad if the owners who purchase Milan bring more players into the management roles. Milan has always been a society that the Berlusconi family has made so strong over the past 30 years.”

On Berlusconi’s last year as Milan’s owner:

“He is a genius. He really has left his mark at Milan. He did everything to win over the past 30 years and he will go down in history forever with what he has done. I remember at Van Basten’s wedding in the 1990s, Berlusconi told us that he wanted a championship (Champions League) He saw light years ahead of everyone else.”

You played on a great Milan side, what was the real strength of those teams?

“There were life lessons before samples just on the field. Franco Baresi for example was a man of few words, but a leader through his behaviour. In my Milan there were a core of players who wanted to work hard to achieve the team goals. I remember my first day at Milanello, I arrived an hour early and saw Van Basten on the pitch shooting around for over an hour already.”
