Numerous issues and controversies have been troubling the Kannada film industry in recent years. Some of the issues have been around the awards, annual subsidy for films, tax relief and inadequate infrastructure facility. Now the state government has put together a panel to form a policy for the Kannada film industry.

According to The Hindu, this panel will consist of 14 members and be headed by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA) chairperson Rajendra Singh Babu. They will be responsible for drafting this policy.

This policy will be valid for five years post which it is likely to be revised, the report adds. The panel will now look into all the issues plaguing the industry and put forth suggestions to make the policy comprehensive.

The last policy that was created for the Kannada film industry was in 1994, by the VN Subba Rao Committee. Even in that policy, issues related to tax subsidy, state awards among other issues were discussed. Many of the recommendations that this policy had been implemented, the report says.
