Instead, we will talk about the ones that actually are awesome. Some are expensive, some not so expensive, but all are definitely worth a try.

Thulp, Bengaluru

Thulp started off solely for the purpose of serving amazing burgers and is doing it pretty damn well. If you like beef burgers, just go to this place and order a Moo Moo. You will not regret. Most of the menu is full of beef, lamb or egg options, with a few vegetarian choices thrown in here and there. The food at Café Thulp is tailor-made for fun-loving on-a-budget youngsters.

Burger King, ABC Farms Pune

Don’t mistake this for the American chain of Burger Kings. This is Pune’s very own hotspot which not only serves the most sumptuous burgers in town but asks for what feels like pocket change for a meal. The main speciality of this place is that one can expect both quality and quantity, at very affordable rates.  Almost everything on the menu costs between Rs 30 and Rs 70. Beef lovers should definitely check this place out as it is famous for its steak burger, which is laden with loads of steak and mayonnaise.

Imbiss, Bandra, Mumbai

This is meat lovers’ paradise and one of the few places where you can enjoy a lot of different meat and sausages, and duck and quail eggs, too. The place is small and congested but the food makes up for all of that. It is unlikely you will get such good quality of meat at the cost these guys charge. Be ready to wait or rather simply pick up, because it’s always full.

By far this place has the widest variety of burgers they serve in Pune. The place is cozy and small, like most good eateries in the city. A favourite among students, this joint does put a little extra of everything in their burgers, specially the sauces. Those who like plain-jane burgers can stay away. For the rest, it’s joy.

Must Try: Barn Japanese Teriyaki Burger, Prawn Popper Burger, WTF Burger

Kents, Defence Colony, New Delhi

Almost every Delhiite would be familiar with this name. Serving not just one of the best but most affordable burgers in town, this joint has whetted and satiated hunger of many over the years. Unlike most burger joints serving fries on the side, Kent’s chooses to give a packet of plain packaged wafer chips with its burgers. If you’re craving burgers and are low on cash, this is your destination.

Monkey Bar, New Delhi & Bengaluru

Ignore the name; the burges they serve is no monkey business, so consume fearlessly. Meant for thise with high taste standards, ’cause the lovely bun, crust, the fillings are all no-waste. They have opened up a couple of franchisees across the country now. And we haven’t heard anything bad about them yet.

Truffles, Kormangla, Bengaluru

Extremely popular for junk food, some say the burgers are out of this world. A legend they are for their lamb burgers. But their tandoori chicken burgers, with buns lathered with garlic butter, are no less. About this place, you’ve no bad things to mutter.

Sundance Café, Mumbai

Sundance Cafe prepares some of the best burgers in Mumbai. Fresh ingredients and great preparation make their burgers very good to your tastebuds. High-quality beef, bakery buns, fried eggs, pickles, melted cheese, and veggies pack a lot of flavour punch in each bite. The Sasquatch Burger (Rs 900) at Sundance has a 20-ounce (over 500 gms) of beef burger patty cradled in a 5-ounce burger bun, topped with Canadian crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg.

Smokeys, GK2, New Delhi and Gurgaon

A high-end place for burgers, and their offerings are very likely to blow your mind. The BBQ grill quality of the patty on the burgers shows how seriously these guys take their burgers. Give the steep price as this is not one of those joints you can go every now and then. This is defiantly a must-visit.

The Table, Mumbai

Not the regular burger place and definitely a fine dining experience, The Table works with a local urban-farming initiative to source organic produce for its kitchen. But yes, if you were to indulge and spend some extra bucks on a burger-like experience, make this it. Probably the most expensive place on our list but you will not regret spending the good bucks on the offerings of this place. The big, fat burger at The Table is simply outstanding.

Biker’s Café, Kolkata

The café may be known for its biker theme interiors but the burgers it has to offer are sure to make you lick your fingers. Special mention for the perfect American bun of the burgers which most burger places get wrong.

Must Try: The Twin Cam Fish Burger, Terminator Lamb Burger

Johnny Rockets, Saket, New Delhi

We did say we would stay away from featuring franchisees, but this one’s so good it just can’t be ignored. US-based Johny Rockets believes in living the big dream, offering humongous burgers, big enough for two people some would say. For patties, you are spoilt for choice — there’s Aloo (potato), Veggie, Soya, Mushroom, Paneer (cottage cheese), Chicken and Tenderloin. You can also choose between a whole wheat bun and Johnny Rockets special Potato (yellow bun). They give you enough options for additional toppings, dips and sauces, too.

Café Zoe, Lower Parel, Mumbai

Popularly known for the sumptuous Italian food it has to offer, Café Zoe is one of those ignored places when it comes to burgers. It has, however, some great offerings for the burger lover. Yes, the very famous beef burgers have been done away with, yet there are some binge-worthy options to try from. Warning though for all of those who can’t swallow their food without a handful of spices in it, Café Zoe is not the place for you!

Black Rabbit, Indiranagar, Bengaluru

Pubs may be rumored to serve good burgers but do they actually do? Not many. But Black Rabbit will not disappoint you. Seafood burgers that taste like crazy The ‘Crab and Mackerel Burger’ a mighty call to savour the oceanic bounty.

Burger You, Kasba, Kolkata

For the moment, this place has delivery (and pick up) only, and may seem like one of those roadside joints you could give a miss. But do not. This is a hidden gem when it comes to burgers, especially if you are in Kolkata, which has a dearth of good burger places. They offer a variety of meat burgers as well as vegetarian burgers.

Must Try: Oozy Suzy, The Texin

Cost for two: Rs 300

(Though most people may be pained not to see their beloved Hard Rock Café, honestly we think once you try these, HRC may seem like a waste of money)

Note: What most Indian joints call beef on their menu is actually buffalo meat. Cow slaughter is banned in most states
