Step 1: Plan to attend the PARENT PREVIEW SESSION WITH YOUR CHILD on FRIDAY, August 22, 3:00-4:00 in the ES THEATER. This activity has a VERY different format from all other ASA's. Critical information will be explained about schedule, roles, auditions, casting, cost, costumes, registration and expectations. This activity must be organized quickly so students can plan their other ASA's.
Step 2:Complete Registration. For LMA only, there are 2 parts to registration:
Part 1 (Online general ASA Registration)
Part 2 (LMA Only Additional Paper Registration)
When you complete your child's online After School Activity registration, select THURSDAY Lights, MUSIC, Action as a FIRST CHOICE ONLY—Please do so as soon as online registration opens! This provides a very important time and date stamp which I may need to reference depending on number of students interested. ALL students should pick another Tuesday ASA if one appeals to them even if auditioning for a lead role. If selected for a Tuesday lead role, I will work with Mr. C (ASA Coordinator) to remove those few from their Tuesday activities to also have Tuesday lead rehearsals. They will still be committed to Thursdays. You do not need to do anything else from the parent end if that is the case.
Please think of this as a "look me in the eye and please give me your word and your child's word" regarding the unique expectations of LMA. In order to create a community where all of the participants can be successful, we need to be on the same page. This will not take long, but needs to be separate to insure a thoughtful discussion happens with the child. Please return this form directly to Ms. Julie in the Music Room (not the Activity Office/not the classroom teacher).

How many students will be able to participate? Maximum of 60Why is there a limit? 1) To provide substantial roles, 2) to be able to better see all participants and 3) to address fire and safety codes for audience seating. Given the overwhelming response to Alice in Wonderland Jr and Seussical Jr in recent years, we suspect we may have a larger number of aspiring stage stars this year.
How will we determine which 60 students can join LMA? This list will be finalized when we post the cast list on Sept 4 if more than 60 are interested. The following priority order will be followed only if we have more than 60 students interested: a) students with lead roles regardless of whether they are in Grade 3-4-5, b) 5th grade in order online registration is received, c) 4th grade in order online registration is received, d) 3rd grade registrations in order online registration is received. And LMA is a super place for EAL students to jump in and build language skills!
Does my child have to audition? NO….only if they want to try for a lead role.They do not need to audition if they want to commit to Thursdays only and have a chorus part. And chorus parts are vibrant as well!A few examples of chorus parts in this show are the some of the Pirates, the Lost Boys, Fairies/Mermaids, Indians, Nana and the Crocodile…..among others!.
STEP 3: What if my child wants to audition for a lead role?
Complete ASA online registration and LMA REGISTRATION PART 2 (paper) before audition
If interested in lead roles, your child should attend one or both Audition Prep sessions on Aug 25 and/or Aug 26 to obtain and learn the audition material.
Sign up for one audition day: Aug 28 OR Sept 1 on the bulletin board outside the Music Room.
Students earning lead roles need to be available on Tuesdays in addition to Full Cast Thursdays. Some roles may be worked into the Thursday schedule and not require a Tuesday commitment. Availability is part of the purpose of the LMA REGISTRATION PART 2.
LEADS must also know they will be at ISP through the end of the school year. A student can participate in the chorus if you are unsure if you are moving away before the end of the year.
Some students may be needed for a FINAL CALLBACK on Sept 2.
After the cast is posted, what are rehearsal days? The full cast will rehearse THURSDAYS all year 2:50-3:50 UNLESS you hear of a cancellation straight from me via email. We often do not "stop" when other ASA's stop. This is a year long commitment cemented by the online registration form. Selected Leads will also rehearse many Tuesdays. Please work out any tutoring or language classes with this commitment in mind.
Is there anything else I need to know now about the rehearsal schedule now? Please note N.E.A.T. Week (No Excuses Absences or Tardies) on all family calendars now. There will be mandatory additional Full Cast rehearsals in the final week for Full Cast (beginning April 20) leading up to the April 24-25 performances when we can FINALLY get the kids into Landau Theater for rehearsals. The week of April 13, we will have a few individual scene rehearsals for small groups (TBD) throughout the week and our first Full Cast rehearsal in Landau on our regular rehearsal day.
How do I get ongoing information if my child participates? I will always email you directly. Be on the lookout for an email confirming you are on my distribution list if you register your child for LMA.
