Pupils at two of Guernsey’s secondary schools have been getting some poetry tips from a visiting writer today.
Ian McMillan spent time at La Mare de Carteret High and the Grammar School as part of an event organised by The Guernsey Literary Festival.
He’s also hosting a creative workshop at Les Cotils, before reading the winning poem in the Guernsey International Poetry Competition at Elizabeth College this evening.
That event is open to the public and entry is free at 6pm, with free refreshments.
Mr McMillan is finding Guernsey inspirational, tweeting ‘Guernsey is so poetic even the gulls shriek in villanelles; the rhyme, the repetition, the narrative’.
