The 68th Independence Day celebration was held at Indian school Darsait on Friday with joy, fervour and enthusiasm. The Chief Guest, Mr. Ashraf Valappil, Treasurer, School Management Committee, unfurled the national flag followed by the National Anthem played by the School Band.  Honourable Members of S M C, Mr. Ajayan Poyyara & Mr. Christopher Joe, Principal, Vice Principals, Asst. Vice – Principals, Supervisors, Coordinators, Heads of Departments, staff, students and a good number of parents and well wishers were part of this patriotic celebration.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest said, “We should remember the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and National Leaders. We owe a lot to the courage and dedicated works of our fore fathers who literally lived to attain freedom from the British. It is their commendable efforts that made India free.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Dr. Sridevi P. Thashnath, saluted the leaders who laid down their lives for the people of India. She urged the students to make our Motherland free from poverty and corruption. She further added that it was the students who could liberate our nation through meaningful education. She concluded her speech by quoting the Noble Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, “Where the mind is without fear and the head is high, where knowledge is free, into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.”

The highlights of the day were melodious patriotic songs sung by the choir from both primary and senior sections of the school. Architects of Freedom- A Glimpse, was indeed an item that brought alive the great leaders of Freedom Struggle. The programme which enthralled the audience for one hour was coordinated by Mr. Lal A Pillai, HoD, Co-Scholastics and Mr. Radhakrishna Kurup, Event Coordinator.
