There is a huge rush of passengers for Ganpati Festival. To clear this rush, IRCTC and Central Railway have announced the running of special trains for Ganpati Festival to be held in Maharashtra from 17th September, 2015.
Ganpati Festival or Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated by Hindus all over India as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom, knowledge and prosperity. The celebrations continue from five to ten days and immersions of the deity are carried out over the last twenty-four hours of the festival. It is believed that praying to Lord Ganesha removes all the obstacles from life and leads to fulfillment of wishes and desires.
Ganpati Festival is the most popular festival of Maharashtra, though it is also celebrated in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh with a lot of zeal and fervour. This festival was started by Chhatrapati Shivaji as a public event to promote traditions and nationalism, and spread the message of freedom struggle to all the Indians.

Central Railway has announced to run 118 more special trains to deal with the extra rush of passengers during Ganpati Festival as per details given below:
01005/ 01006 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Madgaon Special
Train No. and Schedule: 01005 special train will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 12.55 a.m. daily (except Thursday) from 8.9.2015 to 28.9.2015 and arrive Madgaon at 2.40 p.m. same day.
Train No. and Schedule: 01006 special train will leave Madgaon at 3.25 p.m. daily (except Thursday) from 8.9.2015 to 28.9.2015 and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 03.55 a.m. next day.
HALTS: These trains will stop at Thane, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarde, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Zarap, Sawantwadi Road, Madure, Thivim and Karmali stations.
