Davos, Switzerland, is the home of the World Economic Forum, an event held each year where huge businessmen get together and discuss business-related topics. For nobodies, who are not really up there like CEOs, there are some things you can do to make it a worthwhile trip. The main purpose of the whole event, thus, is just trying to make connections. You aren’t going to really be enlightened by any of the discussion panels. Nobody is going to say anything controversial, and everyone is just going to take the middle ground. And worst of all, the food will be good but there really won’t be much of it. Some of the main things to think about are that every event is going to be as boring as the next, so just stick it out and ignore the temptation to leave one discussion panel to go to yet another boring one. Another thing is to avoid the socializing like the piano bar, where a different set of people will be there every night, and you’re unlikely to make any kind of connections. So, take the opportunity to go skiing once, and anything else remotely fun, and chat up bigwig CEOs just to say you had a conversation with them.
