Parties are great, and so are video games. What happens when you combine both of them?
Video games have a firm grasp on being the most interactive type of entertainment nowadays. There is also an increasing number of adults who now dabble with virtual entertainment from time to time. Of course, everything is only good in moderation, since video games are known to tank students’ grades.
Just like movies, video games have a versatile range of application. There are many genres to choose from: first person shooters, real time strategies, role-playing titles, simulators and so on.
But not every type can be equally entertaining in a party environment.

Parties are never fun without activities so picking the right thing to play with friends is always a vital part of any social gathering.
Games for parties have been a central entertainment theme. In fact, there are services dedicated to this very idea. In the US, a service called Game Parties R Us provides buses and trailers filled with proper equipment. And in the United Kingdom, there is a similar service known as the Gaming Party Bus; this game bus is a mobile video game party as well, complete with all amenities needed for having fun times.
But when renting a party bus is not entirely possible, you can still provide lots of variety and interactive activities for yourself and your guests with a computer game party. Video games are a great tool to de-stress and have comical interactions with your friends you wouldn’t normally have otherwise.
Once again, gaming is only good in moderation. If you end up spending too much time in the virtual world, you may need to get help writing term papers.
So here are a couple of gaming party ideas for your consideration. Games at parties need to fun, and multiplayer; this is the main criteria for their selection.

1) Mario Party Series (Mario Party 10; 2015) by Nintendo
Nintendo has been providing entertainment for countless generations. Almost every new Nintendo console has been getting a major Mario Party release since the Nintendo 64 era.
Iconic characters like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Captain Toad, Peach and countless others join the roster of playable characters.
By now, the formula of Nintendo party games has been refined and perfected to an art form. Newest Mario Party title is not different in that regard. Players are free to take on numerous play modes.
A particular party mode is distinctly hilarious. One of the players assumes the role of Bowser, the titular bad guy of the Mario franchise, while others try to escape from him. All of this takes place on levels which resemble something out of an obscure tabletop, with traps and modifiers.
Each player rolls a metaphorical die (a type of RNG) and moves across the board.
Bowser’s dice count is dependent on the number of players trying to escape.
At times, Bowser Jr. comes around and helps Bowser Sr. out with an additional die or an incidental buff to equalize the chances.
The game utterly is hilarious, tense, and provides many memorable moments for everyone involved. Even though Nintendo has been a subject of countless discussions due to lack of innovation, you can’t fault them for making their particular brand of entertainment that is perfect for gaming parties. Arguably one of the best games for kids party.
2) Quiplash (2015) by Jackbox
Jackbox are notorious for developing entertaining party games. Their list of titles includes You Don’t Know Jack and some lesser known titles like Fibbage, Word Puttz and Drawful 2. There are Jackbox Party Packs available as well; they bundle numerous Jackbox titles into a neat little package.
But the star of the show, is definitely, Quiplash. It was released in 2015 for all many platforms – Win PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, Amazon Fire TV, iOS and even Fire OS. No matter what’s your preferred platform, there are countless ways to enjoy this title.
Quiplash is a battle of wits, a multiplayer (both online and local) title designed for 3-8 people.
At certain points in the game, each participant is prompted to give a simple, witty response to a simple cue.
The entire event consists of three rounds.
In the first two, players are given two questions they need to answer humorously. (Points are doubled in the second round.) There is no such thing as a right or wrong answer, all of them serve the same purpose.
As the round comes to an end, two answers get pitted against each other. Every player can vote for the best one; the winning answer gets more points.
The third one gives a single question everyone needs to answer. Answers then appear on the screen, and every participant is required to pick the ones they like the most.
As you can imagine, the player with most points at the end wins.
Providing plenty laughs and light-hearted fun is a given. Quip to your hearts’ content with Quiplash. Definitely one of the best party computer games currently available.
3) Nidhogg by Messhof
Nidhogg is a 1v1 game developed for Windows PC. Two pixelized swordsmen are pitted against each other in this minimalistic game.
Controls are very simple. One button attacks and the other controls the jump. This title can be easily described as a tug of war race.
Each player tries to reach the opposing side of the map and get eaten by a giant worm thing. That’s right; the titular Nidhogg is a worm.
It’s fast-paced, hectic and, most importantly, fun.
4) Gang Beasts (early access 2014) by Boneloaf
Steam Early Access program may get a bad reputation for a reason, but occasional gems like Gang Beasts do release and get popular.
Up to 4 players can take part in a free-for-all brawl. You assume control of gelatinous characters, which can attach to and throw their opponents across inventive levels, use environmental traps and outsmart the opposition.
Supported platforms are Win PC, OS X, Linux, and PS4.
5) Street Fighter IV (2009) by Capcom
This list wouldn’t be complete without a fully fledged fighting game. Hash out all the differences with your friends on a virtual battlefield.
Street Fighter is a long-running series developed and published by Capcom, and across the years it has gathered a cult following. Street Fighter IV was initially released in 2009 but lived through a couple of hefty revisions.
The most recent one, Ultra Street Fighter IV came out in 2014. But no matter which version you go with, you will enjoy robust move sets, experience ultra combos and have massive amounts of fun, even if you’re not an avid fan of fighting games.
Platforms include PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Win PC, Nintendo 3DS, and even mobile platforms (iOS and Android) have support for this game.
