President-elect Donald Trump has released his first round of Cabinet level nominations, and the names he’s released has conservatives cheering and liberals jeering.(Which is always the outcome we hope for.)
The transition process has been a bumpy road for the Trump team thus far (mostly due to negative media attention, and hyperventilating from liberal naysayers). Almost immediately after winning the election, Mr. Trump was forced to cut ties with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ), who had been running the transition process. Trump also moved to rid himself of all members of the team that he saw as loyal to Governor Christie. This first bump in the road cost the Trump team at least a week and countless hours of groundwork were completely undone.
However, amid all of the hoopla and handwringing from the media, the transition work continued, led by Vice President-elect Mike Pence, and now we’re beginning to see the fruits of that labor. On Friday the Trump team announced their first legitimate offers of nomination to President-elect Trump’s cabinet.
Attorney General:
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who was Mr. Trump’s first and most important political endorsement of the campaign, has been tapped to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States. Where Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch both disdained upholding our immigration laws, Senator Sessions is well known as the most aggressive anti-illegal immigration legislator in Congress.
Here’s what the Trump team had to say about him this afternoon:
It is an honor to nominate U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions to serve as Attorney General of the United States,” said President-elect Trump. “Jeff has been a highly respected member of the U.S. Senate for 20 years. He is a world-class legal mind and considered a truly great Attorney General and U.S. Attorney in the state of Alabama. Jeff is greatly admired by legal scholars and virtually everyone who knows him.”
Senator Sessions proudly accepted the opportunity:
“I am humbled to have been asked by President-elect Trump to serve as Attorney General of the United States,” said U.S. Senator Sessions. “My previous 15 years working in the Department of Justice were extraordinarily fulfilling. I love the Department, its people and its mission. I can think of no greater honor than to lead them. With the support of my Senate colleagues, I will give all my strength to advance the Department’s highest ideals. I enthusiastically embrace President-elect Trump’s vision for ‘one America,’ and his commitment to equal justice under law. I look forward to fulfilling my duties with an unwavering dedication to fairness and impartiality.”
Director of the CIA:
Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) is a conservative stalwart from the great state of Kansas, and he has an impeccable resume for the job. Pompeo is a veteran of the U.S. Army, has a J.D. from Harvard Law, and served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He’s also served on the House Intelligence Committee, which means he has a unique understanding of our current Intelligence needs.
From the Trump campaign:
“I am proud to nominate Congressman Mike Pompeo as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency,” said President-elect Trump. “He has served our country with honor and spent his life fighting for the security of our citizens. Mike graduated number one in his class at West Point and is a graduate of Harvard Law School where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He will be a brilliant and unrelenting leader for our intelligence community to ensure the safety of Americans and our allies.”
Congressman Pompeo has eagerly agreed and is ready for the job.
“I am honored to have been given this opportunity to serve and to work alongside President-elect Donald J. Trump to keep America safe. I also look forward to working with America’s intelligence warriors, who do so much to protect Americans each and every day,” said Congressman Pompeo.
National Security Advisor:
The last announcement the Trump team made on Friday was for the position of National Security Advisor. That post has been offered to retired Lt. General Michael Flynn, who has already been working with the Trump team for several months now.
Mr. Trump was glad to ask his friend and ally to continue supporting him in this important role.
“I am pleased that Lieutenant General Michael Flynn will be by my side as we work to defeat radical Islamic terrorism, navigate geopolitical challenges and keep Americans safe at home and abroad,” said President-elect Trump. “General Flynn is one of the country’s foremost experts on military and intelligence matters and he will be an invaluable asset to me and my administration.”
Flynn has also accepted the nomination.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to accept the position as National Security Advisor to serve both our country and our nation’s next President, Donald J. Trump,” said Lieutenant General Flynn.
The Trump transition team has made a strong start to the Cabinet naming process, choosing two well-known and well-respected conservatives to fill high level positions. There is also hope that the team will keep leaning on the Conservative wing of the Party as they seek new bodies to fill other cabinet level positions. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) met with Mr. Trump earlier this week, and former Congressman Allen West (R-FL) is reporting that there are rumors that Hillsdale College President Larry Arnn may be our next Secretary of the Department of Education. Just the fact that this is a rumor is currently driving the Teachers’ Unions crazy. Arnn is a staunch philosophical conservative who has the strength of his convictions and has been fighting for conservative values and conservative education reform for years.
The next few weeks should prove to be quite interesting for the Trump transition team.

Secretary of Agriculture:
The Hill is reporting that President-elect Trump has also offered Senator Jerry Moran a Cabinet position.
President-elect Donald Trump has asked Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran to serve as secretary of agriculture, The Hill reported Friday.
An unnamed source close to the Republican senator said Trump contacted Moran this week, but he is still considering the offer.
