After a proud 103 year history, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) changed their membership policy opening the ranks to boys engaging in homosexual behavior. For many concerned about this change affecting their children, a new group, based on Christian principles, began operation on January 1, 2014: Trail Life USA.

According to their website, their motto is “Walk Worthy” – taken from Colossians 1:10: “… that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

The Blaze reports:

The idea for the organization came last September in Nashville, when 1,200 former scout masters, Eagle scouts, parents, church leaders, and other former professions with the Boy Scouts of America from 44 states gathered.

The Trail Life USA membership standards for the organization includes, “The basis for the program’s ethical and moral standards is found in the Bible. In terms of sexual identification and behavior, we affirm that any sexual activity outside the context of the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman is sinful before God and therefore inconsistent with the values and principles of this program.”

“While the program is undergirded by Biblical values and unapologetically reflects a Christian worldview, there is also a clearly defined inclusion policy for youth,” according to the membership standards. “Accordingly, all boys are welcome irrespective of religion, race, national origin or socio-economic status. Our goal is for parents and families of every faith to be able to place their boys in a youth program that endeavors to provide moral consistency and ethical integrity in its adult leaders.”

Larry Wagner, who is a leader recruiting members and host churches for organization in Northeast Florida told WTEV in Jacksonville, Fla., “As a Christian, I see Trail Life USA as a way to be more explicit with my Christianity and imparting that aspect of it as they grow into manhood.”

Wagner said that potential troop leaders agree to a statement of faith that includes defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman, according to the Jacksonville station. The statement of faith can be viewed on their website.

“For the youth who are still exploring who they are or might be having a conception of who they might be, we make no such constraint,” Wagner said. “Come on board, walk with us for a while. We’ll see where this leads.”

Naturally, homosexual rights activists question the need for another group. According to activist, James Eddy, “There’s no difference between a gay Boy Scout and a straight Boy Scout. I mean, they’re there to learn the Scouts.”

Alternative organizations to the Boy Scouts of America are not new. The Assembly of God sponsors an organization called Royal Rangers. While a Christian mentoring program for young men, Royal Rangers also offers programs for girls and women which are also Christian based. Both Royal Rangers and Trail Life USA offer similar activities as the Boy Scouts of America; but, these groups maintain and promote Christian based principles in their associations and leadership. For Christian parents looking for an organization dedicated to Christian principles, Trail Life USA and Royal Rangers provides a comparable alternative to the Boy Scouts.

What homosexual rights activists do not understand is the Boy Scouts of America is not just “learning the Scouts.” The organization is about so much more than learning “Scout” skills; but, the homosexual activist groups are more interested in forcing acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle upon the general public than viewing an organization in its entirety. They fail to look beyond the superficial as their agenda is first and foremost. As awareness of this new alternative organization to the BSA spreads and increased attention is turned to established alternative organizations, it won’t be long before homosexual rights activists begin a campaign against these Christian based youth organizations.
