In this article, I want to share with you the 10 secrets to dominate Google homepage with content marketing.

Forget the hype and rumor flying around the web, improving your ranking isn’t that difficult.

We’ve been fed with lies that search engine optimization is difficult and takes a lot of time to work.

For over 6 months, I’ve been living with this marketing gimmick, thinking it’s the reality.

On the surface, some SEO advice can seem helpful, but it’s truly killing us.

Content marketers, writers and bloggers need to understand what works and what doesn’t.

If you’re still waiting for someone to caution you against keyword stuffing and duplicate content, I think it’s high time you go look for a 9-5 job. Internet marketing isn’t for you.

The #1 Secret to dominate Google

Get this: there is no secret anywhere. It’s just that you’ve been chasing after the wind. You’re looking for the ‘next’ thing in traffic generation. If you want to improve your ranking on Google and drive organic traffic continually, then make up your mind to “FOCUS ON PEOPLE!”

Google has made it clear on several occasions. When you’re marketing online, the focus is on the people you’re serving, not you. “The Blog is by you, not about you” – Michael Chibuzor

Come to think of it, you can’t buy the product you’re selling. You need others to buy, read and comment on your posts. If that’s the case, which should be, then forget about yourselves and channel your content writing efforts on others.

Why you’re not ranking on Google top 10

Do you want me to tell you the truth? The reason why so many blog owners are enjoying organic traffic is “ignorance.” As I said above, we’ve been given a different mindset when it comes to SEO. It’s got to change today. Keep reading…

The moment you hear about search engine optimization, your mind would go to keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, anchor links and so on. Looks clouded, right?

This can also cause you to look for shortcuts. Most people wouldn’t mind using tools to automate one aspect of SEO.

But that’s not necessary. I have been able to dominate Google homepage for high volume keywords and phrases, without any tool or cutting corners. You can do that, too.

Now, let’s look at 10 secrets to rank and drive organic traffic, without the mumbo jumbo of SEO. This is simple, proven to work and can bring results within the 30 days. Enjoy and share your comment below…

1.      Pick on idea and run with it

You can’t afford to be a jack-of-all-trade anymore.

It’s time to specialize in one niche or subject and address it wholeheartedly.

If you used to write about 100 ways to start a home business or something of that sort, stop it.

Just take one idea out of the Top 100 and kill it. I mean, write extensively on it.

The moment you select one idea, you don’t even need to research keywords or try to squeeze it in.

The best key phrases would automatically fall into place naturally, as you write the article. And that’s what Google is looking for.

If you’re a content marketer like me, then every blog post or guest post you write must be related to that micro niche or topic. Whatever your website is about, the best time to show forth your knowledge is now.

Are you into email marketing? Then talk about list building, subject lines, permission marketing and everything in-between. Stay focused – it’s a secret, which Google might not share with you.

2.      Answer that ‘one’ question

Do you answer relevant questions when you write content or do you contribute to the noise?

You can only stand out in this competitive blogosphere, when you begin to answer questions. Your target audience has a lot of questions, but you don’t have to answer all. Just find out the most bugging or common question and give answers to it.

A while ago, I discovered a common question that my readers and target audience were asking. Here: “What is content marketing?” Isn’t that simple?

But when I answered the question in my post, Google picked it up and sent thousands of real visitors to my blog. Yes, the blog you’re reading right now.

And if you’re new to content marketing, you’ve a better chance of dominating search engines. Why? Because your competitors are already established sites.

They don’t care about common questions anymore. You’ve to take advantage of this. I’ve outranked Mashable several times, because they’re after latest trend, while I’m focusing on questions.

3.      Write a keyword-rich introduction

We’ve read so much about headline and how to write a clickable one? But do you realize that the introduction is equally important?

If you’re not using the All-In-One SEO Plugin on your blog, it means that your post introductions would show up on Google result pages.

Even if you’re using the SEO plugin, it’s still important that you enrich the introduction, or what they call “lede” in journalism.

Take a look at my introduction: I started with the primary keyword that I’m targeting. You can see how natural and relevant it is.

The purpose of starting with your target keyword is to educate Google spider. You want to appear relevant.

My blog is about content marketing and I had to start with that term. That’s relevance at its best. Don’t stuff your intro with keywords, but make sure you start with it.

4.      Watch your grammar and spelling

This is no brainer. Even though blogging is an open source, which allows you to share your best and worst experiences without sounding like a Professor, you still must watch your grammar. And why is this so important?

Is it because of Google or their faceless spider? Absolutely not! The reason is because of your readers.

Grammar and spelling goofs can discourage readers from coming back to your blog.

And Google has a way of monitoring repeat visitors. The spider uses cookies and cache elements on your browser to track this.

It’s really vital that you encourage repeat visitors. That’s why media sites like CNN, INC. and others are extremely successful.

They’ve millions of repeat readers. Of course, you don’t have to be perfect, but don’t make silly grammar mistakes.

As they say, “Education is the best legacy.” Take grammar and spelling lessons and get it nailed. Google uses the behavior of your readers to check your site’s relevance. If readers stick around, it shows how valuable your site content is.

Consequently, Google can send avalanche of targeted traffic to you as well. Get to know the rules, before breaking them. My 2 cents – I hope you’ll appreciate it.

5.      Less is always better

“Less is always better.” By less, I mean few options at a time. Let’s assume you’re a speaker in a large gathering. The attendees are beginners to internet marketing. How do you communicate at their level, and inspire them into action.

If you train them on 20 ways to get started, it can be daunting to pick the best way. Instead, show them 5 ways to get started and the conversion rate would go through the roof.

When you’re writing to a group of people, don’t give everything at once. You could even break up your blog post into series and drip-feed the various parts accordingly.

User experience is what determines your ranking in search engines. Google is so concerned about her search users.

Because if they’re not satisfied, Google would lose AdWords Advertisers. Make it easy for your target audience to implement your tips right away.

6.      Attract links, stop chasing links

Guess what, the last guest post I did for John Chow brought 53 quality links to my blog pages.

Yes, you got me right. The truth of the matter is, you can never be satisfied with the number of links you build manually.

If you disagree with this, let me know in the comment box.

And because we’ve been told that thousands of links are what matters, content marketers who have good intentions for starting their blogs are beginning to give up. It’s too stressful to run a blog, they would say.

Despite thousands of links they’ve got, ranking on Google top 10 is still very difficult. Can I tell you why this is happening?

It’s because you were chasing links, instead of attracting them. You see, if you can plan your guest blogging career well, it can bring hundreds of quality and natural links to you.Stop asking people to link to you.

Don’t even think about link exchanges. I was able to attract links because my guest post was helpful. The article was timely, evergreen and valuable.

Don’t expect people to link to your article, except there is something for them to benefit. Write epic content, promote the article. Sit back and count your links from authority sites.

7.      Optimize images with your key term

Another simple SEO secret that most people have neglected is image optimization. It’s no longer news that Google has a database for image search.

If your niche is competitive, don’t even try to target the popular keywords, because you won’t rank for them.

Take the easy route, optimize your images properly. The same keyword you’re targeting on the headline should be added to your image ALT text, title and description blank spaces.

When people search for images, which they can use for web designs, graphic designs, custom designs, blog posting and so on, the image you optimized would show up.

Make sure you use the right images for your posts. This way, people can use the image, credit your website as the source and send more trickles of free traffic to you. Optimize your images today.

8.      Write a 1000+ words article, forget 500

It’s amazing when I see content writers who still subscribe to the 500 words myth. As far as I’m concerned, it can be very difficult to build a successful website if all you do is write and publish short articles.

Yes, I’m of the belief that quality should be at the forefront of content marketing, not quantity. But that idea was true before Google started releasing their weird animalistic-Panda and Penguin. Maybe the next update would be tagged “Lion update.” Aha!

Today, if you want to appear relevant and valuable, you need to increase the length of your articles. I’m not asking you to pad or copy and paste just to meet up with the ideal words count.

But as much as you can, make your articles at least 800 – 1000 words. Even if the content doesn’t meet up the quality score in Google’s eye, a lengthy article has its benefit.

In fact, my best performing posts were over 1,500 words. And I’m sure this post is going to dominate Google homepage for the term “content marketing.”

The post is exclusive, helpful and well-researched. Now, that’s content marketing in action – take my advice to heart. It works. Really!

9.      Utilize Google+ like a pro

I’m not a BIG fan of social media marketing, but I love Google+. Not just because you can share your content, but because it’s owned by Google and has an edge over Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Once upon a time, Digg was as powerful as Google+, but all that is changed now. You should be active with Google’s social networking site, even more than other social networks. Yes, I think so…

Share your good posts. Educate those in your circle. Solve their problem and encourage them to leave a comment on your campaign.

Make sure you optimize your content with the right key term. This way, Google spider can index and serve your content to targeted search users.

10.  Find, target and shoot

Phew, we’re almost done with this post.

I was speaking to a group of College Students last week about “entrepreneurship.”

95% of the attendees were interested in starting their businesses and so, they came to acquire the right knowledge.

When I saw the desperation on their faces, I decided to share my 3-point strategy that applies to every facet of our lives.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a content writer, a business coach, a web designer, a nurse just name it – this 3-point strategy works for everyone, for whatever niche and business model.

Find, target and shoot. That’s the secret used by Eagles when they want to catch their prey.

The Eagle while hovering in the Sky would find the prey, target it before shooting. And you’ll discover that Eagles always win when they use this strategy. Well, I’m telling you now. Lol!

To get your readers dancing to your tune, locate them first. Then target them with your exclusive content, like the one you’re reading now.

Then go ahead and call to action (shoot). Get them unto your email list and build a formidable relationship.

SEO secret step!
