The words luxury and interiors go perfectly hand in hand with many people investing in the creation of an opulent home above all else. Design Hunter, won the coveted Best Luxury Blog award and we have been chatting to Editor Helen Powell about her inspiration for the blog, how her love of interiors has evolved and where she sees the blog in the future…

How did you get into writing?

I’ve always written. It’s something I’ve enjoyed doing in one form or another ever since I was a child, so I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to make writing a part of what I do for a living.

How did you come up with your blog name Design Hunter?

I was playing around with words that represented what I wanted my blog to be about – which was exploring the interiors and design world for ideas and inspiration – and the name Design Hunter just felt right.

On your blog you curate some of the most inspiring and sophisticated objects. Where do you find them all?

Finding designs to feature is never a problem – there is so much incredible design talent out there. I just wish I had more time to write about it! So many of the objects and interiors I am inspired by never actually make it onto Design Hunter.

From where did your love for interiors evolve?

I suppose you could say it’s from an appreciation of creativity and craftsmanship, and also a belief that the objects we choose to surround ourselves with should help create a home that is inviting, restful and a place of sanctuary

How did you feel when you discovered you had won the best luxury blog award?

Surprised and overjoyed! I honestly wasn’t expecting to win. The fact that the award was voted for by both readers, including other members of the blogging community, and a panel of judges means a huge amount to me. I floated around in a daze of happiness and excitement for a few days afterwards.

What is next for your blog? Do you have any exciting projects on the horizon you can tell us about?

I’m hoping to spend some time developing my photography skills so that I can style and photograph more of the content featured on Design Hunter myself. I recently invested in a new camera lens so I’m looking forward to experimenting with that and I’d like to be able to commit more of my time to styling projects.

Travel is a big part of your blog, if you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

I’ve always dreamt of owning a property on the Isle of Skye. The landscape is just phenomenally beautiful and it would be a perfect location in which to design and build my own home – something I would love to do.
