By December 26th we’ll all have had it UP TO HERE with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, but until then holiday events can turn a hum drum week into something special or break up the shopping and wrapping.

But nothing is quite as nice as hearing your favorite carols and songs live.

Add in plays, ballets, dancing, and singalongs and you have a wonderful Hampton Roads holiday ahead.

A tradition that began in 1945 continues with the Yorktown Christmas Tree Lighting. Evening highlights include a 7 pm performance by The Fifes and Drums of York Town at the Victory Monument, festive music at Riverwalk Landing, the procession of lights through the historic village, and the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

HRMB is an all-volunteer, non-profit symphonic concert band that is comprised of musicians from 16 to 86 years old. Founded in 1930 as the Norfolk Fire Division Band, HRMB is the oldest continuously performing community concert band in Tidewater. The band’s mission is to provide the public with performances of enjoyable music including marches, classical music, patriotic pieces, big band charts, contemporary tunes, and music from stage and screen. The quality and variety of the music makes a performance by the Hampton Roads Metro Band exciting and entertaining.

Enjoy the splendor and beauty of Hampton Roads’ most exciting classical ballet production of the holiday season — The Nutcracker! This magical and lighthearted story of a small girl’s dream on Christmas Eve has delighted children and adults of all ages at the Ferguson Center since 2004. This production has developed a following spanning the eastern seaboard, delivering a sparkling adaptation of the E.T.A. Hoffman tale based on the original Petipa version. It is coupled with Tchaikovsky’s rich, classical score. The production features awarding-winning guest artists, brilliant costumes and scenery, dazzling special effects and showcases an outstanding cast of more than 80 performers.
