One of the more vibrant and luxurious developments built by the city of Dubai is the Downtown Dubai project. Previously known as Downtown Burj Dubai, it is a large and complex real estate development spanning an area of 2 square kilometers, and costing an estimated $20 billion US dollars.

The project itself is situated strategically around important Dubai landmarks, which include Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Fountain. It can be accessed through one of Dubai’s arterial roads, the Sheikh Zayed Road, and to the North East from Financial Centre Road. It is connected to the Dubai Metro via the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall metro station. The development is divided into 11 projects. Amongst them Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain, Dubai Mall, Burj Park Island, and the Address Downtown Dubai hotel are all at the center of the complex. The Old Town and the Old Town Islands are low-rise residential buildings. Souq Al Bahar, Emaar Boulevard, The Residences, and South Ridge make the high-rise residential towers.

Business Bay is another central business district that will soon dazzle the world. According to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Business Bay will be a new ‘city’ within the city of Dubai and is being built as a commercial, residential, and business cluster along the new extensions of the Dubai Creek. The project features numerous skyscrapers and upwards of 240 buildings and developments, with a wide network of roads, pathways, and canals, all of which feature cafes, gardens, and restaurants for the community. The expected completion of the project is said to be around 2015.
