No surprise here, but great news nonetheless: Peter Dundas (pictured, above left), who has made playful prints at Pucci for the last six years, will be bringing his decadent touch to the house of Roberto Cavalli (pictured, above right) in a new role as creative director, effective immediately.

The move has long been anticipated in Italian fashion, as Cavalli, who is 74, has let his intentions be known to seek new investment and creative direction in his company, which has been making fabulously exotic fashion and prints for more than four decades. Dundas, who once worked for Cavalli before taking a brief turn at Emanuel Ungaro and then Emilio Pucci, seemed a logical choice, given the designers’ shared passion for clothes that will stand up to an exuberant lifestyle.
Dundas’s last collection for Pucci included dresses lavishly decorated with constellations, suggesting the designer had his mind on what would be foretold by the stars. It’s not as though he needed to consult a fortune teller, however, since reports about his move to Cavalli have appeared in newspapers everywhere since December.
Dundas will present his first collection for Cavalli, for spring 2016, in September, which will likely bring renewed energy to both Dundas and the house. There’s been a feeling for a while at Pucci that Dundas is capable of far more than pop prints, and Cavalli, with its large network of global stores and a range of fashion and home collections, will offer him greater opportunities to express himself. And the appointment will give Cavalli more time to enjoy himself in that spectacular villa with his gorgeous brood of grandkids — if you haven’t yet, be sure to check out our feature from the March issue of InStyle.
