Mack also set a career high in rebounds (12) and minutes (38) during the loss.

Freshman forward Jarrett Allen recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. All five Texas (5-5) starters reached double figures in scoring, as freshman guard Andrew Jones tied a career high with 17 points and set career highs in assists (7) and minutes (32). Sophomore guard Kerwin Roach Jr. recorded 12 points, while senior forward Shaquille Cleare added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Arkansas (9-1) converted 29-of-31 (.935) from the free throw line, including 18-of-19 in the second half, while Texas hit 19-of-32 (.594) from the stripe. The Razorbacks were led by Daryl Macon, who was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line and finished the afternoon with a game-high 23 points. Dusty Hannahs added 15 points off the bench for the Razorbacks, hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Arkansas registered a 30-4 advantage in bench scoring.

Jones helped Texas get off to a hot start, scoring the team’s first five points in the first 1:36 to take an early 5-2 lead. A pair of threes from Mack extended the lead to 13-8 heading into the first media timeout. Texas held the lead for most of the first half, until Macon converted seven straight free throws to give the Razorbacks a 30-28 lead with 3:13 remaining. Texas would hold Arkansas scoreless in the final three minutes, scoring the final seven points of the half to take a 35-30 lead into halftime.

Macon scored the first five points for the Razorbacks to start the second half, cutting the Longhorns lead to 37-35 at the 18:13 mark. Arkansas hit six straight free throws to take the lead 43-42 with 15:13 remaining. Sharp shooting by the Razorbacks sparked a 7-0 run over 1:19 to extend that lead to 50-43 at the 13:18 mark.

The Longhorns stormed back with a run of their own thanks to second-chance points and trips to the free throw line, outscoring the Razorbacks 12-3 over a span of 5:16 to tie the score at 61-61 with 4:41 remaining. Arkansas answered with a pair of layups from Arlando Cook and Hannahs to grab a 65-61 lead with 3:59 left.

After a Roach free throw, Arkansas used a 6-0 run to build a 71-62 cushion with 2:28 remaining. Six straight points from Mack and a trio of free throws from Jones trimmed the deficit to 73-71 lead with 41 seconds remaining.

Arkansas’ Cook and Macon each converted a pair of free throws before Mack sank a deep three to cut the Razorbacks’ lead to 77-74 with 17 seconds left. A turnover off the ensuing Arkansas’ inbounds pass offered a chance for the Longhorns to send the game to overtime. But Roach could not convert a three-point attempt, and Arkansas prevailed with the victory.

The Longhorns return home to face UAB on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Tip is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by Longhorn Network.
