With over 1 billion users, Facebook can be pretty hard to stay on top of. Here at the Insider we want you to get the most out of your student experience in Australia, so here is our guide to Facebook for students to help you out.
University
Your university will have a page and that is a great place to start! With info on campus events and helpful hints, they can be a good resource. Be warned though, universities generally aren’t great with social media so don’t expect too much!
A few examples are: Monash University, Flinders University and University of Queensland.
Have you joined any clubs or societies at your university? If not, you should! Anyway if you have then make sure you like their page to stay on top of all the latest information.
Some examples: Adelaide University Engineering Society, University of Sydney Education and Social Work Society and Queensland University of Technology Sport.
Your university will also have a union that help to make sure that your university experience is a positive one. Their role can vary from uni to uni but they are generally responsible for a lot of the great stuff that happens around campus.
For example: UWA Student Guild, University of Melbourne Student Union and University of South Australia USASA
International Student Support
As an international student, your university will generally have an office in place to support you. These are great people to get to know, both online and in the flesh!
Examples: RMIT New International Students, Macquarie University International Students and University of Technology, Sydney International Students.
In addition to your university, your new city will also have programs and offices in place to help. They are great resources for understanding your city beyond your university.
Examples: StudyAdelaide and Study Perth.
Online and in real life the Council of International Students Australia are on your side. Check out their page CISA.
Entertainment
Obviously you already like our page (Insider Guides) and recommend it to all your friends! So who else should you check out to enjoy your new city? Street press are free magazines you will find in cool spots around the city (although some are now just online). They include information on music and events happening around town. They are also on Facebook and well worth a like.
