Rachel from Redcliffe Style

Today’s Stylish Thoughts comes from Queensland blogger Rachel from Redcliffe Style.

What is the secret to great style?

I think the secret to great style is confidence. If you have confidence in yourself and also pick an outfit you feel comfortable in, you can’t help but look amazing. If you are worried about your stockings falling down, your undies creeping up or if your bum looks big, you won’t shine as much as you could. You should wear clothes you like and feel comfortable in, not just items that the sales assistant or your sister said looked awesome, they may not be looking after your best interests.

What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?

Shoes and handbags. These can take a simple outfit to a whole new level.

What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on?

The basics. Singlets, tights, t-shirts.

What’s the secret to looking polished?

To look polished you have to do your hair, even it’s a slicked back ponytail. If you don’t have time for makeup, throw on some lippy, sunglasses and a smile. People will think you have done way more than you actually have.

What is your current obsession?

I am obsessed with heeled, ankle booties. I don’t think I will ever own enough and I would love to have them in every colour and material. I also love colourful, patterned scarves. I have no power to resist them and I don’t even try to. Scarves are a cheap, fun way to perk up an outfit.

What’s the best piece of style wisdom you’ve ever received?

My father told me that no one thinks about you as much as you do. It made me relax about what I looked like and realised that I didn’t have to strive for perfection, no-one expects that and I could just be myself. Also, I think Nicole Ritchie said “more is more”. I do love my accessories. I will always throw on bracelets, rings, belts and scarves and then still grab sunglasses and a hat as I run out of the house.

What is your favourite current trend?

I love the mixing of unexpected colours or patterns

What’s your favourite short cut to style?

Basic black outfit, great jacket, statement belt or scarf and strutting shoes. I love a heel and my short legs appreciate them.

What’s the worst current trend?

Short, short, shorts. I can stand the butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of them. I can not stand cut off denim shorts. Unless you are under 10 please don’t.

How would you decide your personal style?

90% comfort, 8% glam and 2% hippy chic. I also don’t iron anything, so I need clothes that can look after themselves.

Who are your style icons?

Nicole Ritchie – perfection

Jennifer Aniston – she does simple so well

Elizabeth Banks – her red carpet choices are amazing

Kate Moss – she has perfected the dirty rock chic look
