“Pursue excellence in whatever you do. Excellence cannot be forced through a process nor guaranteed by a certificate. It comes from an all-consuming passion to do one’s best.”

1.       God’s Own Kampus: In the lap of nature, dwell 3 completely different identities in perfect harmony with unmatched excellence! God – The creator, IIM Kozhikode -The Pinnacle with a serene and breathtaking campus and of course us (the faculty and students) – The brain, mind, heart and soul of the place. The B-school’s 96-acre campus occupies two steep hillocks. The scenic campus is located on a hill-top which adds to the exotic locale and the scenic beauties of the place. You have to be here to understand why it is referred to as one of the most beautiful campuses in Asia.

With strong emphasis on water conservation measures in the curriculum, the Institute practices water harvesting to the core, replenishing the reservoir that makes the institute self-sufficient.

2.       The B-school with a Heart: IIM Kozhikode as an Institute boasts a socially oriented management curriculum. The Institute aims to inculcate social values in its students who in the later period of their lives add value to the society, by considering & weighing in the social implications of their decisions.

A mandatory course on ‘Social Transformation of India’ uncovers the depths of the country’s problems. The objective is to guide students towards the root problems plaguing the society and create a social bent of mind among students which gets ingrained through their mandatory project course- “Social Development Project”, undertaken in the second year.

The social service group carries out socially relevant projects where SSG tries to introduce the concepts of modern management to small non-profit organizations. They also conduct ‘fund raising’ activities to strengthen events that are held for a social cause. A blood donation camp is organized periodically in association with Calicut Medical College, which see participation in large numbers from the student community. Not only this, the Institute goes a long way in meeting book requirements of marginalized students who get enrolled in various Management Institutes of the country through its ‘Book Donation Camp’.

IIMK is the only B-School to organize a marathon and has successfully conducted The Calicut mini-marathon for the 3rd year in a row. It has become a national event, synonymous with Calicut, IIMK and social welfare. The theme this year was “Empowering Women” and had received over 6000 registrations.

3.       Course Curriculum: A judicious mix of different teaching methods, evolved using feedback from students and other programme participants, is employed at the institute. The emphasis is on learning processes and learning outcomes for enhancement of managerial competencies. Compulsory courses like Indian Economy, Environmental Management are taught only at IIMK.  As far as the electives are concerned (which are chosen by the students according to their preferences through a dynamic elective bidding), unique courses are on offer like Economics of Strategy, Strategic Management of Innovation, Meta-Heuristics, Discovering Self, Management Consulting, Evolution of Society, Marketing for a Better Society etc.

One of the highlights of the curriculum is the unique workshop called Managerial Perspective. (IIMK is the only B-school in the country to have such a workshop). It is designed to give the students a holistic perspective and a better understanding of how the various different functions of management, such as Marketing, Finance, HR and operations, are inter-related and contribute to the decision-making process. This is carried out through a mix of series of online simulations(like a Himalayan Trekking expedition to improve team building skills), screening of videos and movies and talks by eminent personalities from diverse spheres like industry, academia, co-operative societies etc

The biggest events at IIMK are the annual management fest Backwaters and the cultural fest Echoes. These events see a great deal of student participation and an excellent platform for learning and knowledge sharing.

7.     The Kampus that stays together, Celebrates together: The student community enjoys life to the hilt by celebrating all the festivals like Diwali, Dusshera, Holi, Navratri, and many more with great pleasure and joy. This year the students came together to celebrate Ganpati Puja, Janmashtami, Onam, Saraswati Puja as well in the true traditional style. There is also a Food festival organized by the students where the cuisines of different part of our country are prepared by the students themselves; a unique way to celebrate the rich diversity of our Nation.

8.       The batch diversity: Diversity in the classroom is another outstanding feature of IIM-K. We have 35 per cent women in the PGPM programme. Among our students you’ll find lawyers, architects, doctors, statisticians and actors. There are people with six years’ experience alongside fresh graduates  and have work experience in various industries like Oil & Gas, Steel, Automotive, Construction, IT and Capital Goods. The kind of perspective shown in the classrooms is unique because of such diversity and it only enhances the learning experience as others in the class can learn from their experience and skills. To include students from underprivileged sections of society, the institute slashed admission fees and organized soft loans.

9.       Industry Interactions: Guest lectures by eminent people from the industry are conducted throughout the year which gives the students an outlook about how things work in industry from those very professionals who have been at the top for so long. There are also several live projects given to students by major organizations throughout the year. This gives the students exposure to real problems from the industry.

Horizons is the Annual Management Conclave organized by Industry Interaction cell at IIMK and aims to provide platform for thought leaders-past, present and future – to discuss and debate issues relevant to the prevailing times. Eminent speakers such as Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, Mr. Kiran Karnik, Prof. C.K. Prahalad, Mr. Steffano Pelle, Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai, Mr.Harsh Mariwala, Mr. Saugata Gupta, Mr. Harshit Joshipura and Mr. K. 10.       Alumni: The IIMK Family is a well-knit unit and it is the endeavor of the institute to keep this bond alive. Sangam is held annually across 12 cities across the globe including New York, Hong Kong, London and Dubai simultaneously and is a platform where IIM-K alumni, current students and the incoming batch are brought together for an evening where stories are told, memories are relived, camaraderie rekindled, dreams are born and experiences are shared and budding entrepreneurs encouraged to achieve their goals. The alumni plays an integral role by providing mentorship to the current students and also play a key role in the placements by ensuring participation of some of the best companies in the industry in the placement process. “ALUMnUS”- Alumni interactions @ IIMK is a new initiative launched which provides an exciting platform for regular interaction between the current PGP students & the alumni of IIMK through Guest Lectures, Webcasts, Workshops, etc.
