buckybarnrs:

// SPOILERS // SPOILERS // SPOILERS // SPOILERS // SPOILERS //

idk how this happened but here are my personal thoughts on stevebucky in civil war

so. straight off the bat the ‘your bucky’ scene. can we talk about steve’s facial expression? he was so pained it threw him totally off guard bucky is completely his weak spot. he says to wanda “i heard ‘bucky’ and i was a 16 year old kid in brooklyn again” GUYS the mere mention of bucky takes steve home bucky is steve’s home

THEIR FIRST MEETING the silence was deafening. “you pulled me out of the river” “i don’t know why i did that” “yes you do” okay this right here is so important steve knows he means just as much to bucky and later on in the movie he says “he’d do the same for me” like steve is so SURE of their love it’s the one thing he can count on to stay the same through decades of pain and the one thing he’s willing to throw everything away for

steve knows right away when bucky’s lying (why is bucky lying? this is like every fic where bucky pretends not to know things to protect steve)

other good things in this scene: steve and bucky’s fighting styles falling completely into sync straight away even though they’ve both changed and bucky keeping steve’s picture in his memory journals

steve defying what should be possible in a moment of complete adrenaline by FUCKING STOPPING BUCKY FLYING A HELICOPTER BY PULLING IT TOWARDS HIM (can be seen as a parallel to the train scene in tfa except this time steve manages to save him)

followed immediately by a tws parallel to him pulling bucky out of the river

i love how this follows a sequence: tfa = steve doesn’t jump after him // tws = bucky jumps after steve // cw = they go down together

when sam and steve get him to a safe place and bucky giggles about steve wearing newspaper in his shoes. he remembers such silly little details and it’s so ENDEARING imagine 40s bucky making fun of steve for that too and steve smiles so sweetly back they are BESOTTED with each other

i’m pulling this out my ass but bucky’s smile looked so FORCED during the kiss scene pining bucky is real and thriving thank u goodnight

the airport scene uhh steve barely hesitates when sam says “none of us are getting out of here you two go” bc steve just has to show us yet again that he will put bucky before even his own team mates

then when he tells nat he “can’t stop” he’s saying he can’t stop protecting bucky. it goes against every fibre of his being

when they’re in the quinjet and bucky’s saying he doesn’t know if he’s worth doing all this for (which i’m 110% sure i’ve read in a fic) and steve. oh my god steve goes through about seven thousand different responses in his head trying to articulate how much he knows bucky is worth doing anything for but he settles on the classic fic cliché of “none of that was you”

them making a “we’re 100 years old” joke THESE ACTUAL IDIOTS HAVE BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH AND THEY CAN STILL LAUGH W EACH OTHER HONESTLY THE SMILES THEY RESERVE FOR EACH OTHER

that uh. that scene in the elevator where they just stare face on at each other for like 50 decades. the tension jfc i thought steve was abt to grab bucky’s hair and shove him against the wall with a leg pressed between his thighs

if anyone makes any comment abt bucky not being that reciprotive in this movie 1) cut the guy some slack he is the one being attacked here 2) when tony attacks steve bucky tries to rip out his arc reactor he goes a p e s h i t (also u can’t forget what seb said about steve being the thing that’s keeping bucky from committing suicide damn)

when tony shoots off bucky’s arm it’s steve’s turn to go apeshit. oh ym god steve sticks the fucking shield in his arc reactor honestly steve is so brutal in that scene the whole movie his him pushing his strength and resolve to the max to protect bucky

that “i can do this all day parallel” and yet again bucky swoops in and saves his ass even tho the dude just lost his arm

tony says to him that he’s unworthy. and guess fuckin what. steve drops the motherfucking shield. because he’d rather be unworthy than sacrifice bucky. he gives up the shield to protect bucky. he doesn’t care who else he’s worthy for.

AND THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME HE’S DROPPED THE SHIELD FOR BUCKY. helicarrier scene anyone? he doesn’t just give up the shield he’s ready to give up on life period jesus christ rogers

AND ANOTHER THING ABOUT THIS in aou ultron says to steve he “can’t live without a war” but him dropping the shield man that’s him giving up the war he’s got another purpose in his life and that’s bucky

basically he’s saying “keep your fucking shield bro that’s not what i’m fighting for anymore”

that letter to tony was basically: i’m always gonna choose bucky but i rly am sorry about that

the post credit scene: A PARALLEL TO TWS OF STEVE LOOKING AT BUCKY’S PICTURE IN CRYO AND LOOKING AT HIM IN CRYO IRL also this is steve letting bucky make his first choice since the 40s without coercing him into doing what he wants, he just sadly lets him do what he knows is right but steve being the emotionally constipated man that he is barely lets any emotion show on his face when he talks to bucky beforehand (but bucky’s smile oh god he’s so selfless and brave my son i birthed on my own)

the whole movie is basically that fic trope of “bucky doesn’t think he’s good enough for steve but he’ll put on a brave face while sort of keeping his distance while also having his six 24/7 meanwhile steve will take bucky in any shape or form and will tear down everything he knows to keep him safe”

honestly this ain’t even about reg/anti-reg like there’s hardly any of that it’s about how steve will fight anyone and anything to keep bucky out of harm’s way. that’s it. like there wasn’t as many verbal stevebucky hooks like in tws but his actions are worth so much more and it’s beautiful and terrifying.
