Gong Yoo’s Goblin could be headed to to Hollywood. The International Business Times reports that the new Korean drama is being scouted by US producers for future production.

According to IBT, there are unconfirmed rumors producers are eyeing Goblin for the Hollywood treatment and that Keanu Reeves will take over Gong Yoo’s role in a US remake.

If the rumors are true, then Goblin isn’t the only Korean movie or drama that’s slated to be Americanized. Deadline reports that the rights to The Man From Nowhere have been bought by New Line.
Released in 2010, The Man From Nowhere became a huge blockbuster and, according to Deadline became the highest grossing film in Korea that year with $41 million dollars in ticket sales.
The film was produced by Korea’s CJ Entertainment and the rights were originally bought Dimension Films but progress on the US production lagged until the rights reverted right back to CJ Entertainment.
The original South Korean film is about a pawnshop owner who must infiltrate a drug and organ trafficking ring to save a child. Directed by Lee Jeong-beom, and starring Woo Bin, the film got great reviews including this one from Variety’s Russell Edwards:
“Helmer Lee Jeong-beom (“Cruel Winter Blues”) shows a flair for action sequences, squeezing tension out of every fight scene choreographed by Park Jung-ryul.”

According to Drama Fever, the list of other movies and kdrama set to get Hollywood makeovers include: The Chaser, New World, A Bittersweet Life, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance, and Hello Ghost among others.
As for Goblin, news of a potential Hollywood remake is just another rise in the wave of success the show has been experiencing recently.
As Inquisitr previously reported, the Gong Yoo drama recently beat Lee Min Ho’s The Legend Of The Blue Sea in the TV Content Power Index chart based on stats by Nielsen Korea. Legend had held the top spot for the previous three weeks.
Goblin looks like it’s well on its way to potentially becoming the most popular Korean drama of the year and could beat kdrama favorites like Park Bo Gum’s Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, and Song Joong Ki’s Descendants Of The Sun.

Goblin (Guardian: The Lonely And Great God) follows the story of Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) an immortal goblin who takes care of human souls. When we meet Shin he has become tired of his immortal life and seeks a human bride to that he too can become human. There are two female love interests at play for Shin: Ji Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun), a young student, and Kim Sun (Yoo In Na) the friendly owner of a chicken restaurant
As IBT reports, episode 4 of the popular Korean drama saw Kim Sun admitting to himself that he is love with Ji Eun Tak, after she gives him a book of poems to read.
